Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000

Position Summary
Under the direction of the HSC Campus Fire Marshal, the Fire Safety Coordinator supports the planning, organizing, and conducting of fire prevention and fire investigation programs across the Health Sciences Center (HSC) Campus. This position provides expertise to University and Hospital clients in support of facilities, fire protection, and prevention operations, and performs various technical or mechanical duties.

All inspection and investigation activities are performed under the direct supervision of the HSC Campus Fire Marshal. The position performs a variety of administrative, technical, and scheduling duties related to fire inspection and prevention, including assisting with inspections of existing structures, construction sites, and remodel projects to ensure compliance with fire codes. Responsibilities also include identifying and resolving compliance issues within the scope of knowledge and authority; reviewing construction plans; and conducting fire drills. The role assists with plan reviews under the Fire Marshal's direction, conducts preliminary code checks, and prepares review comments.

The position requires contact with regulatory and accrediting bodies, including the City of Philadelphia, The Joint Commission, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health, as well as with campus partners and the public.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Details
* This position requires the following background checks: Department of Motor Vehicles background check.
* Offer of employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
* This position is 100% On-Site.
* This position requires flexible work hours and occasionally attending morning, evening, and weekend meetings and training.

Required Education and Experience
* At least three (3) years of directly related experience as a full-time Firefighter or Fire Code Enforcement Official.
* Previous experience in public fire education, fire cause determination, fire service instruction, fire code enforcement, or emergency preparedness training.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
* Experience in Fire Inspection and Investigation, or Fire Protection Engineering.
* Completion of Fire Code/Fire Inspection classes within the last three years.
* Elevator code familiarity.
* Familiarity with healthcare accreditation life-safety standards (e.g., TJC LS/EC, PA DoH).

Required Skills and Abilities
* Must have working knowledge of the reasons and intent of fire code requirements, as well as a working knowledge of building construction and fire protection systems.
* Must have excellent reasoning and critical thinking skills with an ability to generate appropriate solutions.
* Must have excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise memos, reports, and other documentation.
* Effective public speaking and training facilitation skills.
* Ability to work independently and organize many projects simultaneously, and prioritize work.
* Must have a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel.
* Accuracy with basic billing, fee schedules, and recordkeeping; proficiency with Excel/spreadsheets.
* Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, and reasonable course of action, especially under conditions that may at times be psychologically and emotionally stressful.
* Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and, under direction, be able to conduct occupancy inspections, annual hazard inspections, fire flow tests, and fire protection system tests as necessary.
* Ability to speak and hear clearly to convey detailed or important instructions or information to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
* Ability to see clearly with corrective lenses.
* Ability to use hands.
* Ability to reach with hands and arms.
* Ability to manipulate and assemble files.
* Ability to operate computers and office machinery.
* Must have hand-eye coordination and fine manipulation skills.
* Ability to climb stairs and ladders and walk on scaffolding.
* Ability to crouch, kneel/squat, crawl, reach, and bend at the waist.
* Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
* Must have a valid US driver's license or the ability to obtain one if hired and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
