Make your mark for patients

We are seeking a highly motivated and independent Scientist I or II / Mass Spectrometry Screening to join our Discovery Sciences team at the UCB-Boston (Cambridge) site. This role will support early-stage programs across UCB's therapeutic areas of interest through designing, executing, and interpreting mass spec-based assays for hit discovery and hit to lead optimization. Please note that this is a lab-based position requiring you to be onsite 5 days/week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and execute Affinity Selection Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) assays to support small-molecule and peptide screening in collaboration with discovery teams.
  • Work as part of a crossfunctional team to develop and deploy mass spec-based screening strategies and communicate results to drive pipeline research programs.
  • Generate large screening data sets and collaborate with Data Analytics team to leverage data for hit selection and SAR generation.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve MS instruments and workflows.
  • Stay current with advances in mass-spectrometry based technologies and emerging methodologies in the field.

Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline. Recent PhD graduates with strong hands-on ASMS experience are encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated expertise in mass spectrometry. Direct experience with AS/MS, MS/MS, and library screening is preferred.
  • Prior knowledge of the relevant application area (e.g., discovery screening, protein-ligand interactions, small-molecule analysis)
  • Strong analytical thinking, problemsolving, and scientific communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with developing and prosecuting peptide-based library screening using MS is highly preferred.
  • Experience with LC-MS, HRMS, and MS/MS in the context of ASMS workflows
  • Experience working in a discovery or industry research environment is a plus
  • Publications or conference presentations in mass spectrometry or related fields.

Salary:

This position's reasonably anticipated base salary range is $99,200 To $130,200 per year. The actual salary offered will consider internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's region, job-related knowledge, skills and experience, among other factors.
