Position Summary:

The Aquatic Lifeguard Coordinator will be responsible for managing lifeguard staff, including scheduling, maintaining safe pool coverage, lifeguard training, and performance evaluations. They will also help provide oversight of safety, cleaning, and operations of aquatic areas and programs. Additional responsibilities include programming and running lifeguard certification classes, lifeguard in-services, assistance at large aquatic events, and performing lifeguard duties as necessary to maintain safe pool operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Supervise lifeguard staff as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
  • Schedule Lifeguard and Aquatic Lead staff and manage shift coverage for day-to-day operations.
  • Assist the Aquatic Manager with interviews, swim tests, and new-hire orientations.
  • Conduct weekly LG3/Lead Guard meetings.
  • Work closely with the Aquatic Coordinator team to coordinate staffing needs with programming.
  • Plan and conduct lifeguard in-services, preparatory training, and make-up trainings.
  • Oversee and conduct lifeguard audits and follow-up training as needed. Maintain audit records.
  • Maintain the lifeguard certification spreadsheet and ensure all staff are recertified on time.
  • Responsible for lifeguard communications regarding scheduling, training, callouts, shift coverage, and in-services.
  • Collaborate with Aquatics Manager on personnel matters, ensuring ongoing documentation of concerns and occurrences, and prompt reporting all issues.
  • Administrative duties include scheduling, programming, maintaining lifeguard management files, incident/accident reporting, in-service agendas, attendance sheets, ARC class enrollments, first-aid inventory, uniform inventory, and lifeguard certification monitoring and filing.
  • Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions. Maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Perform lifeguard duties as necessary to maintain safe pool operations.
  • Respond to Code radio calls whenever possible to provide back-up support to lifeguards.
  • Inspect, assist, and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
  • Maintain a safe working environment. Perform regular inspections of aquatics areas.
  • Knowledge of how to handle pool contamination incidents, identify problems in the pump room, reporting any unusual issues to the Aquatic Manager and Operations.
  • Oversee scheduling and instruction of ARC lifeguarding, CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Babysitter courses. Submit necessary information to ARC for invoicing and certifications.
  • Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.
  • Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.


    General Qualifications and Proficiencies:



    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Must have prior to start of employment unless otherwise noted and must maintain current certifications in the following:



      • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
      • American Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard certification
      • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within nine months of hire
      • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED/ Oxygen Administration.
      • American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hire


    • CPO certification is highly desirable.
    • Advanced emergency response experience or other advanced first aid are desirable.
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience and 2+ years of aquatic experience.
    • Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action.
    • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
    • Must be able to operate a computer and Microsoft Office Suite software.
    • Must be able to work varied and flexible shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
    • Demonstrate the ability to relate and communicate positively with staff, members, and customers.
    • Must have at least two years of experience as a lifeguard.
    • Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as TSA.


          Physical Requirements:



          • Must maintain minimum fitness level to be able to accomplish the following:


            • Perform the American Red Cross swim pre-test.
            • Must perform the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. This position requires the ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck, and ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs., sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, jog, pull, push, balance, reach and ability to use fingers and hands.


          • Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatic areas.
