This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek. Hours may vary from Part-time to Full-time hours based on business needs.

About the Position

As a Temporary Ballot Tabulation Center Floater, you facilitate the election process by organizing, processing ballots, providing guidance, and performing data entry. This position acts as a BTC Adjudicator, BTC Inspector, or BTC Operator if needed, or assists with other assigned tasks. Floaters may also be asked to help with equipment setup and testing. If there is a recount, all floaters are asked to return after the election to assist with conducting the recount.

We Require

This position requires a high school diploma or GED.

Other Requirements

  • Must be a registered voter or have the ability to become a registered voter in the State of Arizona by the time of hire
  • Must be registered as Independent or Party Not Designated when acting as a BTC Inspector
  • Must be registered as a Republican or Democrat when acting on a bipartisan Duplication or Adjudication Board
  • Must pass an applicable background screening
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary
  • Must have legible penmanship

Job Contributions

  • Performs all Tabulation Room tasks, is cross-trained in all areas of the Tabulation Room, and remains flexible on a daily basis to fill in where needed
  • Collaborates in teams of two, each representing different political affiliations, to assess a voter's intent (e.g., Republican and Democrat) or assists teams when they are unsure about a voter's intent by providing guidance and clarification
  • Maintains accurate and legible documentation of ballot processing
  • Stands throughout the assignment, moving between teams as necessary to provide guidance
  • Organizes bundles of ballots to feed into tabulators or scanners by sorting, stacking, and straightening bundles
  • Lifts up to 50-pound ballot trays from racks to the tabulation machine
  • Assists in setting up and testing equipment for the Vote Centers
  • Assists other divisions within Elections or the Recorder's Office with daily operations and additional job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Full-time/Temporary/Holidays/Overtime hours are mandatory during the election cycle
  • Upper extremity repetitive motion is required
  • Requires the ability to review small fonts on hard copy or computer screen, to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist a minimum of 50 pounds, and carry it for 100 feet, and to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • All operations will be conducted under Livestream cameras and in the presence of political observers
  • Must not engage in any political discussions
