SUMMARY

The Technology Specialist II will assist with the daily operations of the Department of Public Safety's technology infrastructure, data center, and computer equipment. They will consult with employees to determine hardware, software or system needs and specifications. They will also implement, test and troubleshoot hardware and software and assist in deployment scenarios.

Reports directly to Assistant Director of Public Safety for Technology.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the daily operations of Public Safety's data center and computer equipment.
  • Consult with the Assistant Director for Technology and other Technology division staff to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications as well as implementation and testing of new hardware and deployment of software.
  • Assist with management, configuration and maintenance of Windows and Linux workstations and servers and associated equipment, switches, routers, and monitoring systems.
  • Assist with configuration and deployment of staff workstations.
  • Perform help desk duties for Public Safety staff as well as any outside field agency we service in the county
  • Work on Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software deployment as well as troubleshooting CAD related issues in-house and with field users who utilize mobile CAD software.
  • Assist with the maintenance and deployment of field hardware such as Mobile Data Computers and modems.
  • Should have a working knowledge of virtualization and networking environments. Knowledge or experience in VMware products including ESXi, vSphere, vCenter, and Horizon View preferred.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Credentials

  • Minimum 2-year degree in Information Technology or related technology field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience in network operations or help desk environment.
  • Experience or knowledge of Technology applications in a public safety environment preferred.
  • Driver's License
  • Subject to criminal background check.

Experience and Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft enterprise level products including Server 2019 and above, Windows 10 and above, Active Directory, and SQL server.
  • Knowledge and experience with Broadcom and Omnissa enterprise level products.
  • Experience with TCP/IP and LAN/WAN topologies.
  • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and perform duties in an orderly fashion under minimal supervision.
  • Experience working with end-users in a professional atmosphere.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, or similar reporting tools preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Office environment and occasional travel to remote sites and agencies.
  • Must be able to attend meetings both on and off site at various hours.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and operate a keyboard & mouse for moderate periods of time.
  • Ability to work during all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work a rotating on call rotation.
  • Ability to do light level physical work that would include reaching, pulling, bending, and lifting.
  • This is an Essential Employee position. Essential employees are obligated to report to work as scheduled or remain at work during emergencies.
