Job Summary

Business Intelligence Developers are responsible for designing, developing, and implementing data-driven solutions that support strategic and operational decision-making across the institution. This role involves analyzing complex data sets, building interactive reports and dashboards, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that business intelligence tools effectively meet their analytical and reporting needs. BI Developers play a key role in transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive informed business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Design and develop data models, ETL processes, and reporting tools to transform raw data into actionable insights that support institutional decision-making.

Job Duty 2 -
Create interactive dashboards and visualizations that effectively communicate complex data trends and patterns to users at various levels of the organization.

Job Duty 3 -
Perform data quality assessments and implement cleansing processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of information used in reporting.

Job Duty 4 -
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in business intelligence, recommending tools and methodologies that could enhance the institution's analytical capabilities.

Job Duty 5 -
Conduct training sessions and workshops for staff to promote the effective use of business intelligence tools and foster a data-driven culture within the institution.

Job Duty 6 -
Monitor and optimize the performance of business intelligence systems, identifying and resolving issues that impact the delivery of data and reports.

Job Duty 7 -
Document business intelligence processes, including technical specifications, user guides, and best practices, to facilitate knowledge sharing and future development.

Job Duty 8 -
Collaborate with Information Technology teams to integrate business intelligence solutions with existing systems and ensure seamless data flow across platforms.

Job Duty 9 -
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure that business intelligence solutions align with their needs and objectives.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Associate degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience.

Required Experience
2+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Information Design of Applied Statistics + 5 years of experience or masters degree in a relevant discipline + 2 years of experience

Preferred Experience:

Experience in Tableau, Power BI and SQL. Crystal Reports/Business Objects a plus.

Preferred Industry Experience:

Experience in Higher Education or other non-profit industry

Additional Preferred Qualifications
University experience and familiarity with GT platforms

Proposed Salary

Job grade: T4 Salary range: $65,000 to $75,000. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications

Technical & Analytical Competencies

o Proficiency in business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Qlik).

o Strong SQL querying and data blending skills across multiple data sources.

o Familiarity with data modeling concepts

o Working knowledge of basic statistics and descriptive analytics.

o Ability to prototype and iterate quickly on dashboards and reports.

o Understanding of performance optimization for dashboards and data models.

Data Literacy & Interpretation

o Ability to identify meaningful trends and anomalies in complex datasets.

o Skill in translating raw data into narratives and actionable recommendations.

o Familiarity with KPI development and performance metric design.

o Awareness of data context limitations, bias, missingness, and caveats.

Visualization & UX Best Practices

o Knowledge of information design principles (color theory, hierarchy, accessibility) and Human Centered Design

o Ability to tailor visualizations to different audiences (executive vs. operational).

o Experience designing for interactivity (filters, drilldowns, segmentation pathways).

o Commitment to clarity - removing noise and emphasizing insight.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

o Strong verbal and written communication skills for non-technical audiences.

o Consultative approach ability to translate vague questions into data solutions.

o Skilled in requirements gathering and expectation-setting for data requests.

o Experience presenting data in meetings, briefings, or written reports.

Operational & Project Management

o Ability to manage multiple concurrent data requests and reporting projects.

o Strong documentation habits tracking definitions, assumptions, and usage notes.

o Ownership of a data request log with status tracking and prioritization.

o Ability to develop repeatable reporting workflows and templates.

Collaboration & Alignment

o Comfortable collaborating with technical roles (data engineers, IT staff) and non-technical ones (communications, leadership).

o Willingness to work with Marketing & Communications to support institutional storytelling.

o Ability to serve as a bridge between data producers and data consumers.

Ethics & Stewardship

o Understanding of data privacy and confidentiality practices (FERPA-adjacent awareness).

o Respect for data governance standards and usage policies.

o Commitment to transparency and reproducibility in outputs.
