Overview:

We are seeking a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeler to apply modeling tools to simulate the complex behavior of fluids at all scales to support isotope enrichment. A successful candidate will collaborate with computer scientists and experimental facilities to develop verified models focused on enrichment technologies. This position resides in the Gas Testing & Simulation Group in the Centrifuge Science Section, Enrichment Science and Engineering Division, Isotope Science and Enrichment Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). This group leads the application of machine and cascade theory to develop, simulate, execute, and interpret testing evolutions for discovery, performance evaluation, and optimization of enrichment systems. As part of our team, you will provide research and development (R&D) support to strategically advance science and technology of prototype enrichment devices for processing both uranium-bearing and stable isotope process gases.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

• Apply initial modeling efforts as they pertain to enrichment technologies.
• Work closely with testing staff & project management to develop targeted model applications
• Plan and execute modeling studies.
• Produce and present thorough, scientific reports describing methods, materials, and conclusions based on modeling analyses.
• Develop and write proposals for innovative research and funding.
• Deliver ORNL's mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.

Basic Qualifications:

• BS degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or closely related field.
• Experience in applications of computational fluid dynamic models for decision making,

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience working in cross-disciplined teams.
• The ability to clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing, to sponsoring agencies, other engineers and researchers, technicians, and craftsmen.

• The ability to work flexible hours and travel when required.
• Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MS degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or closely related field
• Strong computational skills with modeling and simulation experience using High Performance Computing environments and experience with Linux environments
• Experience with MATLAB, Python, or related development packages for processing of model results
• Familiarity with Finite Element Methods.

• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

• Active DOE Q Clearance

Special Requirements:

• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
