Plant Growth Facilities

The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support for the new East Campus Plant Growth Facility and Sears Greenhouse. This position will be responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of equipment, in particular growth chambers and cold storage rooms, within the facilities to reduce failure rates. When failures do occur, they will generally need to be resolved within 24 hours, and often the same day. This position works to ensure equipment reliability, and fast response when problems arise, affording researchers the opportunity to keep their focus on their research with minimum need to redirect their attention to equipment issues.

This position will interact with faculty, staff, postdocs and students from many divisions, departments, and colleges across campus using the research facility. Will also be the key point of contact for equipment within the facility, as well as infrastructure. As East Campus Plant Growth Facility is new, communication with vendors to resolve issues within the warranty period will be essential. This position will be responsible for all maintenance and repair decisions required to keep the facilities operational.

On site, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Specific experience with operation and maintenance of controlled environment plant growth chambers, including models from Conviron, is desirable. EPA Section 608 Certification is preferred.

Hiring Salary Range: $21.71 to $40.09 per hour

The East Campus Plant Growth Facility and Sears Greenhouse will be used on a continual basis for primarily grant-funded plant biology research of multiple faculty teams from across campus. Maintenance and reliability of the growth facilities is essential to prevent loss of research productivity, meet grant obligations, and support student and postdoc educational programs.
