Job Summary

The Senior AI Product Manager drives the development and continuous improvement of our AI-powered translation models, with an initial focus on two-way translation between American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with the potential of extending to additional signed and spoken languages. This role sits at the intersection of applied AI research, product development, and real-world customer impact.

You will serve as the critical bridge between our AI scientists and engineers, who build and train the models, and our customer-facing product managers, who surface the use cases and quality signals from the field. You are equally comfortable debating model evaluation frameworks in a research meeting and translating those conversations into clear priorities for go-to-market teams. You have a deep appreciation for the unique linguistic and cultural nuances of signed languages, and you are passionate about building AI systems that are accurate, fair, and genuinely useful to the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing communities we serve.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define AI model requirements by synthesizing customer use cases, field quality feedback, and linguistic research into clear, measurable model improvement goals.
  • Partner with AI scientists and engineers to prioritize the model development roadmap, including training data needs, evaluation benchmarks, architecture decisions, and milestone criteria.
  • Collaborate with customer-facing product managers to establish structured feedback loops that convert observed product learnings into actionable model improvement work.
  • Own the AI model quality framework, defining success metrics and driving regular review cadences with research and engineering leadership.
  • Develop and maintain an AI capability roadmap, tracking progress against model milestones, data acquisition goals, and expansion into new use cases.
  • Monitor the competitive and research landscape, tracking academic advances and assessing their applicability to Sorenson's products.
  • Translate model capabilities into product features, working with customer-facing product managers to determine how AI quality improvements are surfaced to end users.
  • Manage vendor and research partnerships related to AI model development, data labeling, and linguistic expertise as needed.
  • Ensure responsible AI practices, including attention to bias, inclusivity, privacy, and regulatory requirements relevant to AI-powered communication services.
  • Personal responsibility for gaining a working understanding of all regulatory and legal requirements related to your role/work product and ensuring that those requirements are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Travel Requirements

Travel Requirements: Less than 25%

Education

Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent career experience.

Experience

5 years of product management experience, with at least 2 years focused on AI/ML-powered products in production environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong ability to translate between technical AI/ML concepts and customer-facing product requirements.
  • Proficiency in defining and analyzing model quality metrics; comfort with concepts such as precision/recall, benchmark evaluation, bias analysis, and A/B testing.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex AI topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders and executives.
  • Deep empathy for users, particularly members of the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing community, and a commitment to building AI that serves underrepresented populations equitably.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and drive decisions in a fast-moving research and product environment.
  • Collaborative, low-ego working style with the confidence to advocate strongly for the right priorities.
  • Passion for building AI products that are accurate, fair, and meaningfully improve people's lives.
  • Professional attitude, team player, strong interpersonal communication skills, and able to work across research, engineering, and business departments.
  • Proficiency with standard productivity tools (Microsoft Office, Confluence, JIRA, or equivalent).
