Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Winston Center on Technology and Brain Development at the University of North Carolina conducts rigorous scientific research to understand the impact of technology on the developing mind and brain. Our research on the role of technology in brain development drives an international movement that prioritizes human wellbeing within human-tech interaction. As a pan-campus research center, we seek to facilitate transdisciplinary studies, discussions, and the dissemination of information to support work across multiple fields of study.
Position Summary
The Winston Center on Technology and Brain Development is seeking seven full-time research assistants to assist with research related to young people's engagement with digital technologies. The Center specifically focuses on the intersections between digital technology use and the developing brain, socioemotional health, and psychological functioning. Responsibilities for the current position include, but are not limited to, assisting with: research protocol development, data collection, data management, participant retention, and help other Center team members as directed. This position is responsible for carrying out human subjects-related research tasks following established research procedures. The job assists faculty and other Center team members with the recruitment and data collection activities from child and adolescent participants, which includes helping with the consenting/assenting families, assisting technologists with collecting MRI data at the Biomedical Research Imaging Center, and applying basic standardized quality control.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
Strong organizational skills, professionalism, and interpersonal skills
Bilingual in written and spoken Spanish and English.
Ability to learn and use several technological tools, including Qualtrics, SPSS, Microsoft Office, and software for coding and analyzing fMRI data (e.g., Matlab).
