| Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit |
The University Libraries advance and support learning, research, and service at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and throughout the state of North Carolina. The Access Services Department connects University Libraries' patrons with library collections, spaces, and technologies. The department provides circulation, reference and technology assistance, course reserves, instructional media and technology lending, space booking, document and campus delivery, distance education lending, collection maintenance, and safety and facility management services. This assortment of services is provided for
UNCG students, faculty, staff, and community patrons all hours the library is open (87 hours per week). The department consists of 7 full-time employees and approximately 35 student employees, both with work hours spread-out over all hours the library is open and each dedicated to providing quality customer service in a safe and inviting environment. |
| Position Summary |
The Weekend Library Manager position has 2 overall purposes:
1) The oversight of the library facility, services, and personnel nights and weekends.
2) The related management and provision of functions related to library services offered in the library and on campus.
This position works closely with the Facilities Team, Department Head and Library Administration to coordinate services in a manner that provides effective and efficient library operations in the absence of administrative management.
During the Libraries' renovation, anticipated to be complete in early 2028, hours for this position are Sundays 9 am-6 pm, Mondays and Tuesdays 1-10 pm, Fridays 11 am-7:00 pm, and Saturdays 9 am-7 pm with different shifts when the library does not operate on the regular schedule. Post-renovation library hours and hours for this position are yet to be determined. |
| Minimum Qualifications |
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY AND TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN LIBRARY SERVICES, OFFICE SUPPORT, OR RELATED FIELD; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. |

| Preferred Qualifications |
- 2 years of experience in library public service and stacks operations, and supervision of employees.
- Familiarity with the services, spaces, technology, and collections provided in a modern library environment.
- Ability to interpret and explain a wide variety of policies and procedures, varying from basic to complex, to the public, and to exercise independent judgment.
- Computing skills, including familiarity across operating systems and fluency with office applications, as well as comfort troubleshooting both familiar and new technology.
- Attention to detail, time-management, and organizational skills.
- Very good written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team member.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet high service standards in all interactions (in-person, by telephone, via e-mail or online).
- Demonstrated ability to locate, analyze, and interpret data contained in complex online systems, such as scholarly databases or integrated library systems.
- Experience creating work process documentation, spreadsheets, and signage.
