Payroll Specialist: This is where you come in.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance activities within a highly regulated construction environment. This role plays an important supporting function on the Payroll Team by assisting with certified payroll documentation, union compliance requirements, and related payroll processes.

The Payroll Specialist reports to Terese Hyde, Payroll Manager, and is part of a collaborative Payroll Team supporting compliancedriven operations across multiple projects. This is a highly visible role that interacts with employees, project teams, and leadership throughout the organization.

Top deliverables in the first year to be a hero:

Certified Payroll & Prevailing Wage Support

  • Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of certified payroll reports in accordance with federal, state, and local public works requirements including Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage laws.
  • Support ongoing compliance efforts by helping ensure payroll data aligns with contract and wage determination requirements.

Union Payroll Support

  • Help support payroll processes related to union agreements, including wage rates, fringe benefits, deductions, and required reporting.
  • Assist in gathering documentation and responding to union-related payroll inquiries.

Construction Documentation Support

  • Assist with filing intents for public works projects and submitting affidavits for service work accurately and on time.
  • Help maintain organized project and certified payroll documentation.

Payroll Exception Assistance

  • Partner with the Payroll Team to research and help resolve weekly payroll exceptions, discrepancies, and retroactive adjustments.

Audit & Record Support

  • Maintain organized payroll records to support internal reviews, union inquiries, and external audits.
  • Assist with document requests and compliance documentation as needed.

Employee Support

  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and clear communication, escalating complex issues when necessary.

Team Support & Coverage

  • Crosstrain to provide payroll processing backup coverage to ensure uninterrupted payroll operations.

Your Background: What kind of person will thrive in this role?

You should have...

  • 1-3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a construction, union, or multi-state environment.
  • Exposure to certified payroll and public works reporting (hands-on experience preferred but not required).
  • Familiarity with union payroll concepts such as wage rates, fringes, and deductions.
  • Experience working with payroll systems and payroll reporting tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established processes.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work with confidential information.
  • Clear, professional communication and customer service skills.

Compensation: $30-$40/hour
