GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting and challenging full-time opportunity with advancement and growth potential for a Project Manager - Large Load (Data Center) Services to work in our Planning & Advisory group. The Project Manager - Large Load (Data Center) Services will support and manage consulting engagements focused on helping electric utilities, cooperatives, and municipal systems evaluate, plan for, and responsibly serve large electrical loads-particularly data centers and other high?impact customers. This role sits within GDS's Planning & Advisory practice and collaborates closely with senior leaders, subject?matter experts, and utility clients to coordinate complex, multidisciplinary projects that span system planning, interconnection strategy, capital investment analysis, rate and commercial considerations, and risk mitigation. Responsibilities: Project Delivery & Coordination
- Manage day?to?day execution of large?load planning and advisory engagements, including schedules, deliverables, and internal coordination.
- Serve as the central point of coordination across GDS technical teams (planning & advisory, rates & regulatory, energy efficiency, among others.)
- Track project milestones, client requests, action items, and follow?ups across multiple concurrent engagements.
Large Load & Data Center Advisory Support
- Support utility clients in evaluating data center and large?load inquiries, including:
- Load screening and intake processes
- System planning and upgrade considerations
- Interconnection strategy and coordination
- Capital investment timing and risk assessment
- Assist in development of large?load playbooks, strategic frameworks, and internal utility processes to manage rapid load growth.
- Support analysis for large?load engagements for our clients, including risk management to ensure the data center or large load opportunity fits the strategic position of the client and risk tolerances.
Analysis, Documentation & Client Materials
- Prepare clear, utility?ready deliverables including:
- Slide decks and technical assessments
- Planning and strategy summaries
- Data?driven exhibits and tables
- Synthesize inputs from multiple disciplines into cohesive, executive?level materials appropriate for boards and management teams.
Client Communication & Engagement
- Participate in client meetings, workshops, and working sessions.
- Help translate complex technical or regulatory topics into clear, business?ready insights.
- Track client decisions, approvals, and evolving project scope.
Internal Process & Practice Support
- Support refinement of GDS large?load service offerings, templates, and repeatable tools.
- Help maintain internal trackers related to large?load opportunities, developers, and project pipelines.
- Coordinate with senior leadership on resource planning and engagement prioritization.
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, finance, public policy, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of relevant experience in utility consulting, electric utility planning, energy advisory, or related fields.
- Familiarity with electric utility operations, planning processes, and capital investment considerations.
- Strong project management, organization, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel; comfort working with technical and financial data.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Projects run smoothly, predictably, and on time.
- Clients experience GDS as highly coordinated, intentional, and prepared.
- Senior technical staff can focus on analysis and insight while the Project Manager ensures structure, clarity, and follow?through.
- Experience with large?load or data center?related projects.
- Exposure to transmission and distribution planning, power supply advisory, IRPs, or interconnection processes.
- Understanding of regulatory environments affecting utilities (state commissions, RTOs/ISOs).
- Prior experience supporting executive?level or board?level or executive-level deliverables.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Solid problem solving and decision-making skills. Knowledge of current industry standards and how to apply them.
- Hybrid working arrangement. Preference for Atlanta, GA based.
- Up to 20% of travel required.
