Description

The Senior Trust Tax Accountant is responsible for the accurate, complete, and timely preparation, review, and filing of federal and state fiduciary tax returns for MidFirst Wealth Management, including forms 1098, 1099 series, 5227, 5498, 1041, 1042, 990PF, and related filings.
This position provides technical tax expertise, leads review processes, partners with external tax vendors, and serves as a resource for trust officers and internal partners on trust taxation, compliance matters, and complex account structures.
The Senior Trust Tax Accountant will also contribute to process improvement, ensure compliance with fiduciary tax laws and regulations, and support internal education and training.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Review



  • Review fiduciary tax returns prior to filing for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Review client tax documents prior to mailing to ensure accuracy.
  • Oversee efiling of tax returns, extensions, and estimated taxes.
  • Ensure timely payment of federal and state taxes, including reconciliation of vendorprepared data.


Technical Tax Expertise



  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of federal and state tax laws impacting trusts, estates, IRAs, charitable trusts, and other complex account types.
  • Research complex tax issues and provide guidance to Wealth Management partners.
  • Recommend changes to transaction processing and account maintenance to improve tax reporting accuracy.


Operational & Administrative Support



  • Review transactions for taxable events and reporting accuracy.
  • Review new and closing accounts and coordinate with the tax vendor.
  • Maintain and update tax account lists and reporting profiles.
  • Monitor federal and state correspondence for all taxrelated matters.
  • Perform document scanning, archiving, and report generation as needed.


Collaboration & Leadership



  • Serve as a resource and mentor to staff regarding tax requirements and account structures.
  • Provide tax guidance to internal teams, clients, and external vendors.
  • Participate in taxseason planning and workflow management.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration. (Postgraduate work in accounting or law preferred.)
  • 2-3+ years of trust and estate tax experience, including advanced understanding of fiduciary tax issues and applicable laws.
  • Working knowledge of trust accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multitask under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience reviewing fiduciary returns prepared by thirdparty vendors.
  • CPA
  • Intermediatetoadvanced understanding of:


    • Irrevocable trusts
    • IRA and taxdeferred accounts
    • Estate administration
    • Complex trust structures (grantor, distributing, charitable, etc.)


  • Familiarity with Fidelity tax software

Annual Salary Range: $86,000 - $136,000. Compensation is aligned to experience, skills and education. Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave; and 401(K) plan. Hours of paid leave may vary based on position. This position is expected to close on August 1, 2026.
