HJF is seeking an Educator I (Faculty Member) to support with teaching, research, service, and leadership roles expected for their rank. The incumbent will teach courses, serve as an academic and/or culminating project advisor, mentor Health Professions Education (HPE) learner research projects for Masters and PhD in HPE, pursue their own program of research as well as take on service roles within the Department. The incumbent will also be expected to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, develop a national reputation (e.g. develop presentations for scholarly conferences from the research data generated from the projects(s)) and take on leadership roles within the Department of HPE, School of Medicine, and USU consistent with academic rank.

This position will be in support of the School of Medicine's Department Health Professions Education (SOM-HPE) located in Bethesda, MD.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Teach courses consistent with area(s) of expertise as a PhD.
  • Conduct own program of research.
  • Serve on Department, school, and/or university committees.
  • Pursues own program(s) of research including writing papers and submitting grants.
  • Advise learners for Master's and PhD research or culminating projects.
  • Helps plan, conduct, and complete investigations designed and led by HPE faculty and students.
  • Prepares related presentations and documents for presentations at national and international scientific conferences, as well as presentations to the Uniformed Services University.
  • Training in education, psychology, or a related field, to include training in research design, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis.
  • Assignments require the performance of complex data collection, data entry, data management, and data analyses involving multiple procedures (both qualitative and quantitative).

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree required in Education or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques; ability to follow basic instructions; good communication and analytical skills.
  • Doctoral-level training in education, psychology, or a related field, to include training in research design, qualitative analysis, and quantitative analysis.
  • Knowledge of and experience with teaching content areas in field of specialization.
  • Familiarity with academic and research advising Master and PhD students.
  • Strong personal initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in solving problems.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple systems, projects, and programs at the same time.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to coordinate disparate groups of faculty and learners in meeting and working together.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $105,800-$120,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
