What you'll be doing...

As Verizon's Lead for Network Security standards and industry group efforts, you will engage and shape the Network Security Ecosystem (Global standards and industry associations such as 3GPP, O-RAN, GSMA, ATIS etc.), and strengthen industry leadership of Verizon's Global Networks & Technology. As an expert, you will partner closely with Verizon network security, technology planning, public policy, product and other stakeholders to create initiatives/positions, and drive them through the Standards Ecosystem by interfacing at a high-level with external organizations (companies, regulators, etc.). This role is a unique opportunity to act as Technology Standards Ecosystem "market maker," influencing Ecosystem working-groups direction / plan, and directly/indirectly making technical contributions toward Verizon's strategic direction.

Your expertise and influence will enhance Verizon's technical leadership by architecting the direction and development of network security standards that will become the baseline for future networks like 5G-Advanced, 6G, Non-Terrestrial-Networks and security technologies enabling our Global Best Network. This position requires a super facilitator mindset & ability to thoughtfully negotiate and navigate sometimes conflicting influences and competitive strategies within global standards development groups, where partners and competitors are equally present. Your command of technical and business aspects will directly improve Verizon network designs, enhance network security, reduce network risks, improve network efficiency and the customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Verizon as Standards lead on Network Security Ecosystem - 3GPP SA3, O-RAN WG11, GSMA, FCC CSRIC.

  • Contribute at a high level to Standards development (white-papers, specs, conference reports etc.).

  • Shape Verizon industry positions with key internal stakeholders (network security/planning, public policy, product) Security direction by relating security technologies, security risks customer experience, stakeholder and business interests.

  • Continuously monitoring the Security Standards Ecosystem.

  • Collaborating with management and connecting opportunities/gaps with business value.

  • Serving as a Technology Standards Lead delegate for Verizon in key workgroups, ensuring prioritized technical contributions through approval.

  • Being the direct interface between Network & Technology groups, suppliers/partners and the security standards ecosystem.

  • Leading industry groups (formally/informally) and advising internal leadership and increase Ecosystem influence.

  • Coordinating and leading contributions sourced across Verizon security subject matter experts as well as identifying where/how to engage and where not to engage.

  • Shaping security technology and standards, aligning with business objectives.

  • Leading and facilitating Verizon contributions to 3GPP SA3 to drive 5G-Advanced and 6G security studies on topics such as subscriber privacy, roaming security, zero trust, certificate management, post-quantum security, etc.

  • Managing decisions facilitating co-signing request decisions and driving development of security requirements for O-RAN WG11, focusing on topics such as certificate lifecycle management, fronthaul security, management plane security, and multi-vendor interoperability. This includes leading design sessions to develop secure and interoperable proposals for standards releases.

  • Designing and shaping Verizon engagement in sub-Ecosystems such as Post-Quantum Cryptography by tracking industry activity and needs of the organization.

  • Optimizing efficiency across ecosystem organizations and focus overall the outputs to deliver clear industry signals.

  • Strengthening ecosystem collaborations and partnerships with key internal partners, including Legal, Technology Planning and Development, Verizon Business Group, Network Security, and the CISO team.

  • Serving as a mentor and guide to other Verizon technology experts to increase competency and knowledge of navigating the standards process.

  • Connecting security technology ecosystem opportunities to customer/business by identifying and translating to industry action & Verizon leadership.

  • Enabling security products and services, and driving network security to create business.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience in network security with emphasis on cybersecurity technology, product development, and architectural design.

  • Experience in leadership and active contributions in relevant standards bodies and industry groups (FSAN, ITU-T, IETF, etc.).

  • Deep technical expertise in network security protocols, cryptography, and architectures is essential. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), cryptography-related technologies, protocols, and standards ecosystem.

  • Experience in presenting complex topics to engineering and non-engineering audiences, including senior leadership.

  • Willingness to travel (including internationally) up to approximately 25%-50% of the time.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree in Communications and advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) in a related technical field or MBA.

  • CISSP or CCCP or other industry-recognized security credentials.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability and interest to contribute in leadership positions.

  • Experience with AI/ML, Data Science.

  • Security clearance or government security experience.

  • Ability to travel including international.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $137,000.00 - $263,000.00. The annual salary range for the Colorado location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $150,500.00 - $263,000.00.
