Description

The Controls Engineer supports the maintenance department by leading preventative maintenance, improvements, and repairs in automation systems and electrical controls while also assisting with department management.

In this role you will:




  • Maintain automation systems including PLC's, HMI's, inverters, servos, robotics, network components, and computers.
  • Troubleshooting of all controls issues as well as assisting maintenance in troubleshooting other issues using PLCs.
  • Make changes to controls programs as needed to improve the system or to fix issues.
  • Assist in the startup of new equipment, including IP addressing, acquiring all programs, and verifying the ability to connect and manage the new equipment.
  • Maintain backups and change logs for all backups.
  • Report any changes made to the program review group.
  • Facilitate training mechanics to handle basic electrical troubleshooting and component replacements.
  • Support engineering staff as needed with department management.
  • Assist in any breakdowns and floor calls as needed.
  • Must be on call off hours for trouble shooting from remote and on-site as necessary.
  • Coverage for the assistant engineer and/or chief engineer in their absence.



Qualifications:




  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an automation controls role in an industrial operation.
  • Food manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
  • Fluent with Allen Bradley systems including SLC and Logix PLC platforms, Panelview HMI's, PowerFlex inverters, Kinetix servo amplifiers, etc.
  • Read and update electrical schematics.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems as well as wire in new components.
  • Understanding of Ethernet networking.
  • PC setup and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient with office software, especially spreadsheets.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Understanding mechanical systems is crucial to success in this role.
  • Available to work different shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.



Essential Physical Requirements:




  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time during a shift, maintaining a normal range of motion in all extremities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and push and pull heavy wheeled equipment or carts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and crouch to access equipment, tools, or materials.
  • Ability to use arms, hands and fingers to handle or operate machinery, tools or controls.
  • Ability to perceive and respond immediately to visual and audible safety alerts and warnings to ensure the safety of self and others in a fast-paced, hazard-sensitive environment with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and airborne particles, odors and fumes.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or work platforms as required by the position.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods using office equipment and computer systems.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective clothing for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
