GEL Laboratories, LLC, an affiliate of The GEL Group, Inc., is looking for a skilled Laboratory Analyst-in-Training to join our team of professionals in our Charleston, SC office possessing an understanding of laboratory protocols and procedures. You will work alongside experienced scientists performing radiochemical sample preparation, in support of analytical testing, using established laboratory methods. This position is ideal for early-career scientists who want to apply their chemistry or science degree in a professional laboratory environment supporting nuclear programs and environmental monitoring projects across the United States and internationally.

The Laboratory Analyst-in-Training will work closely with team members to meet productivity and quality goals with minimal supervision. This position focuses on sample preparation for analytical testing. As you gain experience, you will be cross-trained in a host of sample preparation processes and methods, providing opportunities to expand your technical expertise. The successful candidate will be eager to learn, a good communicator, attentive to detail, and love working with your hands in preparing samples for testing while controlling potential contamination.

The Laboratory Analyst-in-Training will be responsible for:



  • Following complex procedures involving sample preparation and/or operation and calibration of instrumentation while demonstrating consistent, reliable performance
  • Conducting basic procedures that support other operations in the laboratory
  • Preparing lab ware for procedures
  • Performing standard operating procedures (e.g. aliquoting and digestions)
  • Completing data entry activities, including initial data reduction, and initial data review
  • Communicating with internal customers or auditors (Project Managers, Quality, or Auditors)
  • Demonstrating and supporting GEL core values

Qualifications for Laboratory Analyst in Training:



  • Bachelor of Science, preferably in Chemistry or Biology
  • One year of related laboratory experience is preferred
  • Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exhibits organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience operating basic laboratory instrumentation and equipment


Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

This position requires working in a busy production laboratory successfully preparing and processing samples from around the world. Safety is a priority and negligence is not tolerated. Safety equipment is provided, and use is mandatory.

The physical demands outlined in this job posting are representative of those that are required for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:



  • Precise hand/eye coordination and finger/hand manipulation
  • Potential exposure to chemicals, and to hazardous and/or radioactive materials
  • Use of office and laboratory equipment and stamina to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects
