Position description

Junior Specialist - Hervey-Jumper lab

Under the supervision of a Principal Investigator (PI), the Junior Specialist will contribute to ongoing research studies focused on neurological disorders. The incumbent will assist with study coordination, data collection and management, human and preclinical experiments, and research operations, while gaining training and experience in translational research methodologies.

Responsibilities may include assisting with single- or multi-site clinical studies; supporting patient recruitment, enrollment, and retention; collecting and interpreting data; delivering speech and cognition testing; maintaining study databases; ensuring protocol compliance; and contributing to data analysis and dissemination of findings.

The Junior Specialist will also have opportunities to contribute to abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations, and to participate in collaborative research activities within the department.

Required Qualifications:



  • B.S. or B.A. in neuroscience, animal science, biology, microbiology, cancer biology, computer science, or related field or at least four years of research experience.
  • Proficiency / ability to learn database management software, such as RedCap.
  • Proven track record of delivering data projects on time and ready for use.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.

  • Applicants must meet the required qualifications by time of hire.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience abstracting data from medical records and transferring it to data collection forms or directly into databases.
  • Experience with working with patients or study subjects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with medical terminology.
  • Previous experience/expertise in Python or Matlab programming preferred.
