Patient Safety Data Analyst (En Route Care-Aeromedical Evacuation)

Ellumen is seeking a Patient Safety Data Analyst to provide critical oversight and support to the Air Force's DAF En Route Care (ERC) Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) patient movement continuum. This role involves providing Service-component support to the DoD designated single manager for Global Patient Movement (GPM), US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), and the Command Surgeon at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. The analyst will be responsible for staying current on national and DoD patient safety initiatives and their impact on the ERC-AE system.


Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Analysis and Reporting:
    • Conduct proactive risk assessments (PRAs) to mitigate the risk of preventable medical events.
    • Maintain expertise in DoD-mandated patient reporting systems such as TapRooT and Patient Safety Reports (PSR).
    • Provide consultation on how to collect, compile, and analyze PSR data to identify system and process issues.
    • Clarify event classifications and recommend the appropriate level of assessment to leadership.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Process Improvement:
    • Participate in the review of all RCAs and provide constructive feedback to unit and organizational leadership.
    • Ensure that unit Patient Safety Program Managers (PSPMs) complete action plans within assigned timeframes and report outcomes to leadership.
    • Track the completion and effectiveness of all action items resulting from RCAs and other event analyses.
    • Forward redacted sentinel event RCAs to the appropriate offices within 15 days of completion.
    • Collaborate with other DoD Patient Safety Program (PSP) Data Analysts and Process Improvement managers on the use of analytical tools.
  • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Design, test, and develop data analysis tools and databases to support the PSP.
    • Troubleshoot issues related to data sources and data quality.
    • Work with Information Systems staff to maintain and administer databases and define functional requirements.
    • Design, test, and produce standard quantitative and ad-hoc reports from current databases.
    • Provide retrospective data analysis reports to the AMC/SG quarterly and annually.
  • Training and Collaboration:
    • Develop, coordinate, and present ongoing PSP education to relevant PSPMs, including topics such as patient safety culture and DoD reporting tools.
    • Collaborate with other patient safety programs on qualitative and quantitative data analysis, risk identification, risk assessment, and risk control.
    • Act as a resource and liaison for DoD PSP, AFMS, and AFMEDCOM personnel.
Qualifications
  • Education: A college degree in nursing, health care administration, health care informatics, or data analysis is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the healthcare industry or an equivalent field.
    • Experience working within the ERC-AE patient movement system is required.
    • Military experience and/or experience in a healthcare setting is recommended.
    • One year of experience performing RCA, proactive risk assessment, and/or process improvement within the healthcare industry, plus a minimum of two (2) years of program management experience.
    • Must be a Manpower and Equipment Force Packaging System (MEFPAK) subject-matter expert.
    • Proficient with quantitative and qualitative data analysis processes and tools.
    • Expert-level data quality analysis skills for transmissions of patient en-route care encounters and PSP reports.
  • Skills:
    • Expert written and oral communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong ability to organize time and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) and/or Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) standards and scoring guidelines is desired.
    • Must possess and maintain currency in American Heart Association-Basic Life Support (BLS) Heartsaver CPR, Heartsaver AED, or an equivalent course.
