What you'll do

This role serves as a strategic and operational force multiplier to the Viasat Government Segment President. Operating at the intersection of strategy, operations, and execution, the Chief of Staff is responsible for translating leadership priorities into measurable outcomes across the Government business.

The successful candidate will drive operational rigor, business cadence, ERP enabled decision support, and performance management across a highly regulated defense and government contracting environment.

This role can sit in our HQ in Carlsbad, CA, Washington DC, Reston, VA, Tempe, AZ, or Duluth, GA, with Carlsbad as the preferred location.


The day-to-day

Reporting to the Government Segment President, the primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Acting as the operational extension of the Government Segment President, ensuring strategic priorities translate into executable plans with clear ownership, timelines, and success metrics
* Driving cross functional alignment and execution across Business Areas, Programs, Finance, Engineering, Operations, Security, IT, and HR
* Providing decision support through data gathering, analysis, and synthesis of complex operational, and programmatic inputs
* Establishing, maintaining, and evolving segment level KPIs and OKRs to ensure consistent performance management and transparency into business health
* Tracking of segment and business/functional level KPIs/OKRs.
* Leading preparation and facilitation of operating reviews, performance deep dives, and executive business reviews
* Leading the Operational and Strategic planning process for Viasat Government segment-with support from business and central functions.
* Serving as a participant and power user of enterprise ERP systems to support forecasting, cost control, revenue recognition, and program performance tracking
* Partnering cross functionally to improve data integrity, automation, and system enabled decision making across the segment
* Operating effectively within DCSA regulated environments, including facility clearance, personnel security, and classified program execution considerations
* Supporting compliance with FAR/DFARS, ITAR, export controls, and government customer requirements in partnership with Legal, Security, and Compliance teams
* Anticipating, identifying, and resolving execution risks, operational bottlenecks, and cross functional dependencies
* Ensuring Group level issues are addressed efficiently and judiciously while tracking progress through resolution
* Orchestrating and facilitating executive meetings, off sites, and all hands sessions, including agenda development, logistics, and follow through
* Preparing executive level PowerPoint briefings, dashboards, and written communications for internal and external stakeholders
* Managing Segment President site visits to maximize impact, visibility, and employee engagement
* Working with the Segment President and executive assistant to prioritize external engagements and leadership commitments
* Collaborating with Chiefs of Staff across the Viasat team to ensure alignment and consistency across enterprise initiatives
* Carrying out additional projects and initiatives as assigned by the Government Segment President


What you'll need

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited university required
* 12+ years of relevant experience with progressively increasing leadership and operational responsibility
* Demonstrated success operating in matrixed, highly regulated defense, aerospace, or government contracting environments
* Strong understanding of defense contracting constructs, including cost plus and fixed price programs and execution risk management
* Hands on experience using ERP systems to support operational, financial, or programmatic decision making
* Experience establishing and managing KPIs, OKRs, and structured operating rhythms
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to synthesize large volumes of data into clear executive recommendations
* Highly organized, detail oriented, data driven, and execution focused
* Excellent time management and prioritization skills
* Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with executive level presence
* Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Strong interpersonal and management by influence skills
* Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively across functional organizations and time zones
* Experience working with senior management and large (1000+ person) organizations


What will help you on the job

* Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance; active clearance strongly preferred
* Experience operating in classified or cleared program environments
* Familiarity with DCSA, and government customer operational expectations
* Demonstrated trajectory toward enterprise level operational leadership roles


Salary range

$171,000.00 - $269,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $212,000.00- $318,000.00/ annually
