The Aviation Department's Operations Division is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Aviation Operations Intern who is a self-starter, ready and willing to learn. The Aviation Operations Intern is a full-time position. The intern will be responsible for document preparation, presentation facilitation, and will assist with day-to-day operations of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International and North Perry Airports. Preference will be given to airport management students. Assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposure to the County's organizational structure. Close administrative direction and supervision are received from a superior; emphasis is placed on training interns for continuing employment within the county or local government. Work is reviewed through observation of performance, frequent conferences, and reports.

All Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere, by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Currently enrolled in, or graduated from, a degree-seeking program from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in Aviation, Aviation Management, Aeronautical Science, and or closely related area of study.

OR

Able to meet the qualifications of a County Commission and Human Resources approved internship or apprenticeship program (Hiring Agency must contact Staffing Services prior to conducting recruitment).

Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge with a Customs Seal.

Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

SCOPE OF WORK

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

  • Applies research techniques and analytical methods to the study of administrative systems, organizational structures, policies and procedures related to the area of assignment.
  • Conducts special studies in conjunction with a project; analyzes data and makes recommendations based upon research.
  • Conducts facility inspections and special projects within the Airside, Landside/Ground Transportation, Terminal, Parking, Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC), Construction Coordination, and Administrative operational areas of the airport.
  • Interacts with local, state, federal, and various airport stakeholders.
  • Responsible for project assignments, research and analysis.
  • Provides information and assistance to the general public and other governmental agencies.
  • Prepares project reports and related data.
  • Provides administrative support to agency.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
