Job Title: Information Technology Program Director

Job Summary:

The OME IT Program Director is responsible for collaborating closely with the Office of Medical Education (OME) Associate Dean of Medical Education Administration & Strategy and the SOM IT Director to manage information technology solutions for the Office of Medical Education. The position will recommend IT strategy, manage technology human resources, implement IT best practices for technology development and delivery, and remain current on emerging technologies. The OME IT Program Director will have the authority to act on behalf of the Associate Dean.

The OME IT Program Director is responsible for leading the design and delivery of education technology services, oversees the educational technology staff and provides strategic vision for technology to support the mission of OME. Additionally, the IT Program Director in collaboration with SOM-IT will work with the OME directors in units - Office of Research Education (ORE), Center for Advancing Professional Excellence (CAPE), Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Graduate Medical Education (GME) - to strategize and implement technical solutions to support their missions. The IT Program Director keeps current on emerging technologies and develops and leads the team to successfully implement technology services, dashboards, and project software solutions. The IT Program Director will work closely with the IT teams across the Anschutz campus and the School of Medicine to align with the university's technology goals with the requirements to procure, implement, and maintain technology for the Office of Medical Education. The role will evaluate technology solutions on an ROI basis and will strategically prioritize limited technology resources.

Key Responsibilities:

25% - Supervision of OME Technology Team

  • Hire and onboard new IT team employees.

  • Develop and coach program managers to lead and supervise.

  • Conduct the annual review process for direct reports; oversee the review process for indirect reports.

  • Manage performance and talent, merit, compensation planning, productivity, recognition, retention and morale, and implement training and development for the team.

  • Oversee leave, resource scheduling, disciplinary matters, and disputes for the education technology team.

  • Prioritize and assign work to teams, balancing workloads to available resources

25% - OME Technology Processes and Implementation

  • Scope requirements for the OME technology roadmap and technology team.

  • Implement best practices for software development, including lifecycle development process, scoping required resources, gathering project requirements, software project management, version control and SOPs.

  • Ensure standard operating procedures and process maps are created, updated, and retained across business team functions, prior to technology implementation.

  • Follow project management best practices to successfully deploy all technology and manage successful resource allocation for all assigned projects.

  • Manage change with team and stakeholders when necessary to meet project deliverables.

  • Leverage current and emerging education technologies, tools, and services to support high-quality learner experiences and improve internal business processes.

20% -OME Technology Strategy and Roadmap

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the development and direction of OME's Technology team, including areas of data delivery, data enablement, technology development and maintenance.

  • Complete OME technology tech stack.

  • Facilitate productive collaboration and communication between technology teams and academic units.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and student stakeholders, to understand the ways in which technology will support curriculum delivery, student support, and business needs and integrate those needs into technology roadmaps as appropriate.

  • Optimize the use of technology, minimizing system duplication and overlap.

15% -OME Technology Emerging Technologies

  • Remain current on emerging technologies, offering guidance and solutions to stakeholders on their implementation in the educational mission

  • Work with stakeholders on technical assessments and organization readiness for implementation.

10% -OME Technology Financial Management

  • Develop the annual OME Education Technology budget, in collaboration with OME Business Services, in preparation for presentation/justification to the Associate Dean of Medical Education Administration & Strategy.

  • Prepare ROI analysis on new project requests submitted by education technology stakeholders and recommend appropriate action to the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration and the Senior Associate Dean for Education.

  • Monitor monthly budget to actual expenditures throughout the fiscal year.

  • Consult with Risk and Compliance (RAC) and OME Business Services to ensure optimal procurement of Education Technology software.

5% - Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Office of Medical Education.

  • Collaborate with SOM and Campus IT on programs and initiatives, as requested.

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and 6-8 years of professional experience of demonstrable and progressive technology team leadership.

  • Prior supervisory experience, or management of an IT operational area.

    • A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education technology, computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Experience in academic (higher education) technology and understanding of IT architectures for education support & delivery

  • Prior experience working in a health sciences university.

  • Prior experience developing and deploying technology strategies and roadmaps.

  • Understanding of data engineering concepts, analytics, data stacks, and model life cycles.

  • Expertise in software development skills, including SDLC, version control, testing strategies, and code quality.

  • Expertise in AI/ML engineering basics, including prompt engineering, LLM integration patterns, and model evaluation.

  • Expertise in project management tools and methods, such as Agile, portfolio management, and change management.

  • Expertise in service delivery and maintenance management of existing systems, utilizing incident, problem, changes and release management; Service Level Agreements (SLAs), metrics, and ticket analytics.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $109,676-$139,507
