About the Role

Culmen International is seeking an Environmental & Chemical Hygiene Support to support the Naval Medical Research Unit-Dayton (NAMRU-D) Administrative Support Program at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.



What You'll Do in Your New Role

    Provide total management and oversight of the NAMRU-D hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and solid waste (hazardous waste (HAZWASTE), non-regulated waste, recycling, used oil, and universal waste), ensuring compliance with all federal, state, DoD, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED), and the Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC) requirements. (Daily)
  • Monitor the management of hazardous waste, used oil, universal waste, recycled material, and nonregulated chemical waste until final disposal or transfer. (weekly)
  • Conduct announced and unannounced inspections of hazardous waste accumulation area(s) and chemical storage locations. (monthly)
  • Maintain the Authorized Use List for hazardous materials. (quarterly)
  • Work with chemical users to ensure chemicals are inventoried in accordance with the WRAIR/NMRC Joint Safety Manual. (weekly)
  • Provide type and quantity of waste (recycling/universal/nonregulated/hazardous) disposed/turned into the WPAFB dangerous waste plan. (monthly)
  • Ensure the local inventory system or the Joint Chemical Inventory Management System (JCIMS) is used to track chemicals. (quarterly)
  • Conduct training for laboratory personnel on waste disposal requirements. (monthly/quarterly)
  • Coordinate with the NMRC Environmental Programs Manager on Environmental and chemical hygiene requirements (monthly)
  • Maintain documentation for all command HAZMAT/HAZWASTE operations (Daily)
  • Conduct and document physical inventories of command HAZMAT (Quarterly)
  • Conduct and document internal environmental inspections on ESAMS or similar programs. (Monthly/Quarterly)
  • Provide budget projections and recommendations to the NMRC government lead. (Quarterly)


Required Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Associate degree or higher-level degree in waste management, industrial hygiene, occupational and environmental health, safety sciences, or related field required.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in hazardous material, hazardous waste, and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Proficient with computer software, including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Experience with OSHA, HAZMAT, and HAZWASTE compliance requirements.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Installation Hazardous Material Plan and environmental compliance requirements
