Applications Programmer (.NET to Java Migration)

Genesis10 is currently seeking an Applications Programmer for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

This role will support a major platform modernization initiative to rebuild core payment technology. The Applications Programmer will focus on migrating backend services from .NET to Java-based systems, while largely maintaining the existing WCF-based UI. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on development experience in both .NET and Java to decompose legacy applications and reassemble them into modern, scalable services within a distributed payments environment.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and pull apart existing .NET backend applications at the code level, then redesign and migrate them into Java-based services
• Support a multi-year initiative rebuilding core payments technology, with initial components being redesigned and rebuilt from the ground up
• Ensure continued compatibility with an existing WCF UI, including updates to service interactions (e.g., UI messages transitioning to APIs or Kafka-based messaging)
• Perform integration development, including middleware messaging and API-level work
• Collaborate across two engineering teams, initially working in .NET and gradually transitioning to driving Java development
• Work with distributed databases and caching technologies supporting high-volume payment processing
• Contribute to new architecture and service designs aligned with future-state platforms
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and align development work with CI/CD pipelines
• Support long-term delivery timelines, with services expected to reach formal test environments by 2026

Requirements:

• Strong, hands-on experience with both .NET (C#) and Java
• Demonstrated success working on application or service migrations, ideally .NET to Java
• Deep understanding of service-oriented and distributed system architectures
• Experience with SQL Server and enterprise-grade relational data models
• Familiarity with Kafka or event-driven/messaging-based architectures
• Experience working with distributed caching technologies
• Proven ability to reverse-engineer legacy systems and rebuild them with improved design
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Desired skills:

• Previous experience migrating platforms, runtimes, or service stacks across enterprise systems
• Exposure to AI-enabled development, applied AI tools, or intelligent automation within applications
• Familiarity with or exposure to CockroachDB or other distributed SQL databases
• Experience modernizing monolithic services into more modular or scalable architectures

Pay range: $55.06 - $63.06 per hour
