*AR FollowUp Representative (Hospital Billing & Denials)* *Location:* Onsite - Chesapeake, VA
*Schedule:* Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM *Dress Code:* Business Casual *Position Overview* We are seeking an experienced *AR FollowUp Representative* to support hospital billing and revenue cycle operations. This role is responsible for aggressively following up on unpaid and denied inpatient and outpatient claims to ensure timely reimbursement and maximize cash collections. The ideal candidate has strong *hospital denial management experience*, is comfortable working highdollar and aged accounts, and can independently analyze claim issues and trends. *DaytoDay Responsibilities* * Work claims from *EPIC work queues* and *Aged Trial Balance (ATB) reports* to prioritize aged and highdollar accounts * Organize and sort claims by *age and dollar amount*, working accounts from oldest to newest * Review claim status to determine what has been *paid, denied, or requires further action* * Actively work *denials*, including registration, authorization, and other denial types * Request medical records when needed, upload documentation to payer portals, and track responses * Contact insurance companies to identify reasons for denials or delayed payments * Communicate with patients to update *coordination of benefits (COB)* and resolve coverage issues * Take all necessary actions to move claims toward payment * Analyze denial and followup trends and collaborate with leadership to reduce repeat denials * Meet productivity metrics of *50+ accounts per day*, adjusted based on complexity and dollar value *Core Billing & FollowUp Duties* * Submit and follow up on inpatient and outpatient claims (UB04 and CMS1500) * Correct claim errors, handle rejections, and resubmit claims as needed * Place unbillable claims on hold and communicate required corrections to internal departments * Submit corrected and late charge claims when applicable * Follow up on unpaid or underpaid claims until resolution is achieved * Post accurate adjustments based on EOBs, payer policies, and management direction * Generate letters and correspondence to payers or patients to resolve claim issues * Maintain clear, concise documentation within billing systems using approved abbreviations * Ensure compliance with *HIPAA* and payer regulations at all times *Systems & Tools Used* * *EPIC* * Payer portals * *OnBase* (document imaging/scanning system) * *Excel* (ATB tracking, sorting, reporting) *Required Skills & Qualifications* * *Minimum 2 years of hospital AR followup experience* * *Hospital denial management experience required* * Experience working *appeals and denied claims* * Strong knowledge of insurance payers and reimbursement processes * Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and resolve complex claim issues * Experience working independently in a highvolume environment * Strong communication and documentation skills *What Success Looks Like* * Consistently meeting productivity and quality metrics * Driving timely claim resolution and cash collections * Reducing repeat denials through trend analysis * Maintaining accurate, compliant documentation * Effectively collaborating with internal teams, payers, and patients *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
