As a crew or individual the employee will perform the tasks of installing, inspecting, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various assets connected to the city’s water distribution system. Assets include, but are not limited to, water service lines, mains, meters, fire hydrants, valves, pumps and reservoirs. Participates in the water meter maintenance program which consists of investigating any leaks in services, clearing of debris or foliage around meter boxes and replacing broken meter boxes or lids. Assists with utility billing by performing tasks with reading meters, turning water on/off, locking/unlocking meters, and delivering notices when needed to customers. Assists and, when trained, performs locating of water lines. Assists with outside contractors on repairs and maintenance performed within the water system infrastructure. Responds to customer calls regarding leaks, complaints, or questions regarding water quality or usage. Participates in flushing program to maintain water quality and to ensure proper operation of fire hydrants. Assists and, once trained, will perform routine water sampling within distribution system to meet all water quality standards and laws. Operates a variety of hand and power tools in relation to the work assigned. Operates a variety of equipment including, but not limited to: service truck with crane, backhoe, high-velocity cleaner, dump truck, hook truck, pumps and generators. Performs manual labor including but not limited to digging trenches, loading and unloading a variety of equipment and materials, lifting and replacing manhole covers. Responds when needed to emergency events that affect the City of Tualatin. Drives daily to a variety of job sites, regularly drives to city facilities, meetings and trainings. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Technical Knowledge/Ability: Ability to learn and follow written and oral instructions along with the ability to safely and effectively use both equipment and tools. Ability to work effectively as a team or independently in the workforce. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public and other employees. Ability to consistently respond appropriately and professionally to questions or concerns with other employees and city customers. Knowledge of customer service principals Ability to follow all safety protocols and perform tasks in a safe and efficient manner. Mathematical Skills & Abilities: Basic math with some algebra and basic water/hydraulic principals. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Special Skills: Ability to learn safe operating procedures of appurtenances associated with water distribution/quality equipment and construction such as but not limited to:
Computer Skills: Ability to learn and obtain proficiency in software related to performance of duties, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, NexGen, and working knowledge of data entry with laptop or handheld devices. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, a CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement, and First Aid and CPR Certification. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire, Grade 1 Water Distribution Certification, and Confined Space Entry Certification. The City will provide initial training, at our cost, for new hires who do not already hold a CDL Class A driver's license. Education and/or Experience: Experience in or general knowledge of general maintenance and construction work, and sufficient education to ensure the ability to read and write.
