The Manual Turning Machinist willbe responsible forperforming complex close tolerance operations in turning, facing, boring, chamfering,recessingand form turning on a wide variety of production parts. This position will set up andoperateengine lathes, turretlathesor vertical boring mills.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Check the Route Sheet (OD222), blueprint, and sketch for the operation and instructions

* Measure rough material and divide stock to ensure 100% clean up

* Turn the first side per turning sketch,blueprintand Route Sheet (OD222) instructions. Check all dimensions, and if correct, remove the piece part from the machine

* On second side, use soft jaws when applicable. Skin cut soft jaws to ensure the face will run true within .001" T.I.R., true up the outside diameter to run true within .001" T.I.R.

* When turning bevels, a proof spot should be added to the back and O.D. of the gear

* Check the size, and if correct, remove the piece part from the machine

* Stamp parts per SOP304

* Follow bar-coding procedures per SOP499

* Read and understand drawings of product, and understand all written work instructions

* All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications

* High School diploma or equivalent education

* At least (3) years of experience with the functions of the machines and tooperatethem competently and efficiently

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability

* Use shop mathematics, micrometers, and measuring instruments

* Work from blueprints, sketches, routesheetsand verbal orders

* Provide necessary hand tools, and measuring instruments

* Able to use company gauging

Language Skills:

Ability to read andcomprehenddocuments including technical information. Ability to speak effectively with vendors and as a representative of the Company.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructionsfurnishedin written, oral or diagram form. Strong ability to define problems, collect data,establish factsand draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables at the same time.
