Description

The School of Medicine/Department of Medical Oncology at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant in Translational Cancer Research.

About the Opportunity

The Translational Laboratory Shared Service (TLSS) at the West Virginia University Cancer Institute is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to support diverse translational oncology projects. This role is central to advancing cancer research through the use of in vitro systems, including patient-derived organoids, and in vivo murine models.

The Translational Core operates within a structured framework that includes at least annual progress reporting, with additional updates provided as needed, to support transparency and continuous improvement. Longer term program support is informed by demonstrated progress and leadership review, aligned with institutional priorities.

The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience in small animal handling and basic cell culture. We are looking for an individual eager to master advanced translational models; comprehensive training will be provided for specialized techniques, including organoid development.

We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. WVU offers generous benefits, including:
* 37.5-hour work week
* 13 paid holidays (staff holiday calendar)
* 15 annual leave (vacation) days per year or more based on years of service (employee leave)

Who is family for the purpose of this leave? A lot of people in your life including immediate relatives and in-laws as well as others considered to be members of your household living under the same roof)
* WVU offers a range of health insurance and other benefits
* 401(a) retirement savings with 6% employee contribution match, eligibility to continue health insurance, and other retiree perks. Looking for more retirement benefits information? Check out retirement health insurance benefits, retirement income, and FAQ's.

* Experimental Execution: Support experimental setup, precise data collection, and meticulous digital/physical record-keeping.
* Lab Operations: Maintain laboratory organization, manage inventory, and ensure strict compliance with biosafety and institutional protocols. Contribute to the optimization of laboratory workflows and resource sharing to enhance the research experience for CI faculty.
