Job Summary

IBX Customer Operations Technician is responsible for the prioritization, fulfillment, and quality assurance of time-bound ticket-driven requests within the IBX , including Expedite/Negotiate, Trouble tickets, Smart-hands, Installation/De-installation of Cages/Cabinets/Cabling, Custom Orders, tape backups, escorts, and/or Network Support, Logistics Support, Security Support, Cable Tray, (in some cases). IBX Technicians also provide support and partner closely with internal Equinix teams and perform on-call services as needed

Responsibilities

Queue Management / Reporting


  • Reviews work order requests in the queue and responds to semi-routine work orders by adhering to commitment times
  • Escalates and expedites orders to appropriate teams upon standard operating procedures; supervision needed on the escalation of non-standard procedure escalation requests
  • Ensures adherence to commit times within standard operating procedures
  • Maintains detailed written records of all work activity
  • Updates local asset databases and other systems

Installations


  • Rack and stack semi-routine customer equipment tickets
  • Supports intra-cage infrastructure installations by following the standard operating procedures of semi-routine customer installations, which may include:

- fiber trays, ladder racks, customer equipment and cabinets
- semi-basic cage installs for mesh and overhead cable trays; and performs tape changes and standard operating back-up changes

Cross-Connect


  • Supports semi-routine data center standard operating cross-connect work order requests (installs, terminations, modifications, and testing)
  • Ensures the standard operating procedures are followed on cable management of: coax, fiber, twisted pair copper, and semi-routine intra-building cross connects
  • Learns to install 'across' connect circuits (switched, multiplexed, etc.), under supervision

Testing / Troubleshooting


  • Supports semi-routine standard operating testing and standard operating installations of customer assets
  • Supports standard operating procedures of layer 1 cross-connect certification testing
  • May learn non-standard operating testing, such as layer 2 and layer 3 testing, under supervision

Stakeholder Partnership


  • Supports and partners with other Equinix key stakeholder teams on projects as directed
  • Coordinates, manages, and oversees vendors for various IBX related projects
  • Coaches and directs new hires to bring them up to speed ("buddy role")
  • Collaborate with customers directly and remotely
  • In large metros, partners with other sites on large projects or campus connections, interbuilding migrations, and resource sharing
  • Provides support via escalation or dispatch on BMS alarms (secondary support when IBX Engineers are not on site)
  • Provides general IBX housekeeping to ensure upkeep and professional environment of IBX

Customer Management


  • Installs and deinstalls cross connects, cages, cable distribution trays, cabinets, and cable management/support systems to align with fulfillment lead time standard for customer; performs tape changes and backup
  • Installs hardware and patching ("rack and stack")
  • Conduct audits, cage cleanups and other customer specific requests
  • Supports Customers on site through escorts, access control, and remote support
  • Monitors stock levels and proactively address needs for reordering of materials
  • Responds to and troubleshoots issues and incident in alignment with commit compliance and SLAs; ensures complex or unique issues are escalated and communicated appropriately
  • Ensures any necessary reporting is complete and accurate

Projects


  • Supports fulfillment of projects that follow standard operating procedures; if projects deviate from standard procedures, then they work under supervision
  • Supports vendors on projects
  • Supports physical customer audits

Training


  • Complete all assigned training in a timely manner
  • May provide support to new hires

Shift


  • Data Center Customer Operations Technicians rotate between day, and night shift every six months and occasionally travel to other data centers in the area to support their workload.
  • Rotate between the following two shifts: On- Monday/Tuesday, Off- Wednesday/Thursday, On- Friday/Saturday/Sunday / Off- Monday/Tuesday, On- Wednesday/Thursday, Off- Friday/Saturday/Sunday. The shift is 12 hours, 6:30PM-7AM w/ half hour lunch.

Qualifications


  • High School Diploma
  • Cross connects test equipment provisioning operation familiarity
  • IT and computer proficiency
  • Experience with ticketing systems
  • Experienced with relevant tooling for tasks
  • Relevant experience may include cabling experience such as Cable TV installers, Telecom field technicians, Telecom - Central Office, Data Center experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • IT industry certifications

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - CU1 Culpeper : 59,000 - 88,400 USD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
