Description

Job Title: Health and Safety Consultant

Reports to: Director, Health and Safety

Job Summary:

As a Health and Safety Consultant, you will serve as a subject matter expert for a diverse range of clients across industries such as manufacturing, construction, and utilities. Unlike an in-house role, this position requires the ability to quickly assess unfamiliar environments, identify gaps in compliance, and provide scalable solutions. You will be responsible for managing project timelines, maintaining high billable utilization, and acting as a strategic partner to client leadership. Travel required based on client needs.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Technical Advisory & Project Management

    • Conduct comprehensive Gap Analyses and compliance audits against OSHA, MSHA, or ISO 45001 standards for various client sites.
    • Develop tailored Safety Management Systems (SMS) that align with a client's specific operational scale.
    • Provide specialized technical support, such as overseeing OSHA Grade D breathing air certifications or industrial hygiene monitoring programs.
    • Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring deliverables are submitted on time and within the allocated budget.

  • Client Relationship & Business Development

    • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable business advice.
    • Identify "cross-selling" opportunities during site visits (e.g., noticing an environmental need and looping in the EHS department).
    • Assist in the development of proposals, scopes of work (SOW), and cost estimates for new consulting engagements.

  • Strategic & Tactical Problem Solving

    • Help clients move from operational safety (day-to-day fixes) to strategic safety (long-term culture and risk reduction).
    • Lead high-stakes incident investigations as an objective third party to ensure unbiased root cause analysis.
    • Design and facilitate custom safety workshops for client management teams.

Pay Rate

  • $70,000-$90,000/annually

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Consulting-Specific Experience

    • 3-7 years of experience
    • Experience in Industrial Hygiene (IH) sampling and reporting is a significant plus.
    • Proven ability to manage "billable hours" and maintain high productivity without direct daily supervision.

  • Professional Attributes

    • Adaptability: Ability to walk into a new facility and establish credibility with both floor staff and C-suite executives within hours.
    • Commercial Awareness: Understanding how safety recommendations impact a client's bottom line and operational efficiency.
    • Technical Writing: Exceptional ability to produce polished, "client-ready" reports that require minimal oversight.

Education & Certification

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in OHS, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
  • Certification: ASP or CSP is highly preferred. Candidates with an OHST (Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician) or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) track are also highly valued.
  • Must be comfortable working across different regulatory jurisdictions (State-run OSHA plans vs. Federal).

    Key Benefits Include:

    1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
    2. Flexible Spending Accounts
    3. 401(K) Plan with Competitive Match
    4. Continuing Education and Tuition Assistance

    6. Life Insurance
    7. Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
