THE POSITION

The Department of State's Bureau of Enforcement and Investigation is seeking a highly dedicated person to help our team protect public health and safety by upholding the standards of various business professions. As a Regulatory Enforcement Inspector, our team will rely on you to ensure a high standard of regulated business by performing detailed inspections throughout the region. The professional team of inspectors assigned to the Scranton Regional Office will provide inspection services to the region of Pennsylvania which includes following counties: Bradford, Cameron, Carbon, Clinton, Columbia, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Montour, Northampton, Northumberland, Pike, Potter, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, Wayne and Wyoming.

This inspector will focus on Schuylkill, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, and Snyder counties; however, they may be assigned an inspection anywhere within the region.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Regulatory Enforcement Inspector, you will help ensure public health and safety through field inspection work to determine compliance with laws, rules, and regulations regarding professional and occupational licensing and other areas under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. In this role, you will perform the following duties:


  • Periodic Inspections: Conduct on-site reviews of all affected professions and occupations through both observation and interviews to verify compliance with laws, rules, and regulations
  • License Verification: Check for proper display of documents and the presence of required equipment and materials
  • Report Preparation: Prepare accurate reports that note any deviation from established standards, summarizing both the inspection and investigation findings
  • Citation Actions: When violations are found, issue citations in accordance with established procedures
  • Evidence Collection: Collect samples and use test kits to check for prohibited substances
  • Limited Investigative Support: Gather evidentiary records, serve legal documents, and pose as a consumer in support of undercover investigations as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; or
  • An Associate's Degree and one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which included one year of experience involving interpersonal public contact and inspecting for compliance with rules and regulations and reporting related facts.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
