As a key member of our team, you'll have an integral role in designing, implementing, and testing Planmeca's next generation of intraoral 3D scanners.
The position of Senior Mechanical Engineer is expected to design, develop, test and analyze performance of complex mechanical, opto-mechanical, electro-mechanical components and systems for new and existing products plus interact and guide our cross-functional teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Demonstrate advanced modeling skills such as surfacing in creation of complex injection molded components. Work with vendor through the injection mold development process to include their design feedback, perform part sample evaluation and provide feedback and final part approval.
  • Demonstrate proficient sheetmetal part design and drawing creation, with practical understanding of process limitations.
  • Utilize FEA tools when appropriate to analyze stress/strain and thermal effects for part optimization.
  • Create part and assembly drawings to company standards including ASME Y14.5 & GD&T.
  • Effectively use, organize, and maintain SolidWorks PDM vault for model and drawing storage.
  • Creo experience is a plus
  • Conduct and document Engineering Studies which include Test Design, Test setup, Protocol, and Report. Analyze findings, present results and provide recommendations to team members.
  • Schedule, conduct and participate in design reviews as require by the project.
  • Communicate with other engineering specialists, non-specialists and suppliers to facilitate process improvements and product development.
  • Support Manufacturing and QA in solving production problems related to manufacturing processes, component design, and assembly structure as needed.
  • Conduct training for Manufacturing personnel on issues related to building mechanical and optical assemblies.
  • Create, review and update technical documentation as needed.
  • Performs other duties as needed.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience utilizing mechanical engineering skills with experience using SolidWorks for part/assembly design and drawings
  • Proficiency in Solidworks & PDM or equivalent (Creo is a plus)
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced, changing environment and to problem solve under pressure
  • Strong work ethic with the capacity to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong desire to design and collaborate with others to create and improve products for our customers
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and writing skills using MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint software
  • Must be flexible, independent, and self-motivated
  • Experience with micro-optics is a strong plus
