Senior Lineworker Instructional Manager

Primary Function: The Senior Lineworker Instructional Manager is responsible for delivering high-quality technical and safety training to participants preparing for entry-level Lineworker positions in the communications industry and apprenticeship roles in the electrical industry. The position combines hands-on outdoor instruction with classroom teaching, curriculum development, and program coordination.

Responsibilities: Work with the Associate Dean of Automotive, Industry and Manufacturing, Program Coordinators, College staff, adjunct faculty, and community representatives to: (a) provide hands-on, outdoor instruction in safety practices, pole climbing, and line construction; (b) deliver classroom instruction, present course material, and administer exams; (c) monitor student progress and provide coaching, feedback, and remediation as needed; (d) update and maintain curriculum to meet industry standards and employer needs; (e) sell and deliver contracted training programs to industry partners; (f) manage training vehicles, tools, and equipment; (g) schedule classes and coordinate instructor coverage; (h) assist in the recruitment and training of the support instructors; (i) ensure compliance with safety regulations and organizational policies; (j) maintain accurate records, reports, and training documentation; (k) carry out other related duties as assigned through the Associate Dean of Automotive, Industry and Manufacturing

Organizational Relationships: (1) Supervised by and reports to the Associate Dean of Automotive, Industry and Manufacturing. (2) Supervises support instructors. (3) Coordinates efforts with the administrative, instructional, and support teams in developing and delivering courses, programs, and services. (4) Connects role to the College's mission and goals.

Performance Standards: Performance in this role is deemed satisfactory when: (a) mutually agreed upon objectives are achieved within a specified timeframe; (b) the responsibilities of the position are performed at a level that aligns with performance objectives; (c) effective collaborative relationships are maintained with other administrative team members.

Qualifications: (1) Education: (a) completion of a formal apprenticeship in an Electrical Journeyman Lineman program from a state approved institution, utility company or union; (b) an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is an asset. (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) working knowledge of program and curriculum development, along with an understanding of job skills requirements and assessment practices. Proficiency in industry-related Line Work, Data Communication and fiber-optic splicing technologies; (b) ability to function effectively as a member of administrative and instructional teams while working effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, administrators, and community representatives; (c) excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, organizational, and leadership skills; (d) strong working knowledge of industry safety standards and line construction practices; (e) valid commercial driver's license and demonstrated ability to operate program vehicles; (f) computer proficient, and experienced in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word and PowerPoint. (3) Experience: (a) successful candidate will have 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience with various Line Work; (b) experience in Data Communications and Fiber-Optic Splicing technologies is an asset; (c) ability to instruct, mentor, and evaluate adult learners; (d) prior experience as a trainer or instructor; (e) experience with curriculum development or workforce training programs preferred

Additional Technical Qualifications: (1) Proficiency in overhead/underground distribution, transformer connections, electrical theory, and troubleshooting. (2) Thorough understanding of OSHA standards, PPE usage, and emergency, live-line, and rescue procedures. (3) Ability to demonstrate and teach proper climbing techniques, rigging, and operating related machinery. (4) Ensuring adherence to safety regulations. (5) Actively updating their technical knowledge. (6) Maintain and update the program's tools and material inventory. (7) Accountable for meeting all administrative deadlines. (8) Ensure the upkeep of the program classroom and storage facilities. (9) Oversee the hiring, scheduling, and development process for the support instructors. (10) Stay informed about the latest industry standards, work safety protocols, and advancements in the areas of lineworker, data communication and fiber-optic splicing. (11) Stay informed about certifications pertaining to lineworker, data communication and fiber-optic splicing technologies.
