At Air Products, our purpose is to bring people together to reimagine what's possible, collaborate and innovate solutions to the world's most significant energy and environmental sustainability challenges. Grow with us as we embark on building tomorrow together by being the safest, most diverse and most profitable industrial gas company in the world.

Reimagine What's Possible

The Advanced Systems Project Engineer is responsible for executing cryogenic and industrial gas delivery system projects from proposals through installation, startup, and commissioning at customer sites. This role is accountable for defining and delivering the project engineering scope and for ensuring systems are designed, installed, commissioned, and turned over safely, compliantly, on schedule, and within approved cost.

Projects include complex systems incorporating compression equipment and cryogenic pump systems, power and control systems, highpressure storage, vaporization, and pressure control. These systems support a wide range of applications, including petrochemical and refining operations, general manufacturing, fueling infrastructure, aerospace applications, and power generation facilities.

The Project Engineer works closely with the Commercial organization to support technical scope definition and budget development during the proposal phase, including participation in sales calls and technical discussions. This role ensures that both Air Products' commercial teams and the customer's technical representatives clearly understand the scope, capabilities, and limitations of the proposed equipment and systems.

During project execution, the Project Engineer leads and supports startup and commissioning activities, coordinating with Operations, field resources, and customer personnel to ensure systems perform as intended and meet contractual requirements. The role also interfaces with customers and crossfunctional internal teams, including Customer Engineering Maintenance and Product Engineering. In addition to core project responsibilities, the Project Engineer is expected to provide technical engineering support to the field maintenance organization for Advanced Systems installations and to support Product Engineering during project execution through application of standard designs, technical coordination, and project feedback.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Lead the execution of Advanced Systems projects from proposal award through installation, startup, and commissioning, serving as the primary engineering point of responsibility for assigned projects.

Proposal & Commercial Support

  • Support the Commercial organization during the proposal phase by developing technical scope definitions, budgetary cost estimates, and engineered solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Participate in sales calls, customer meetings, and technical discussions to support proposal development, and ensure alignment between Air Products' commercial teams and the customer's technical representatives on system scope, equipment capabilities, limitations, battery limits, and installation responsibilities.

Project Engineering & Execution

  • Define project engineering scope and execution strategy for engineertoorder and standard Advanced Systems, including compression equipment, cryogenic pumps, highpressure storage, vaporization, pressure control, and electrical and control systems.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as system layouts, P&IDs, equipment specifications, BOMs, foundation requirements, and construction packages.
  • Conduct site evaluations to support system design, constructability, regulatory compliance, and installation planning.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external suppliers, fabricators, and contractors to ensure successful execution of project engineering requirements.
  • Manage engineering scope, schedule, and cost throughout project execution, including support of change evaluation and resolution.

Startup & Commissioning

  • Lead and support startup and commissioning activities for executed projects, coordinating with Operations, field resources, vendors, and customer personnel.
  • Verify system performance against design intent, safety requirements, and contractual obligations, and support resolution of startuprelated technical issues.
  • Support project turnover activities, including documentation completeness and handoff to longterm support organizations.

Field Maintenance & Ongoing Support

  • Provide technical engineering support to the Customer Engineering Maintenance organization for Advanced Systems installations, including troubleshooting, system modifications, and resolution of technical issues to ensure safe, reliable operation and minimize downtime.

CrossFunctional & Process Alignment

  • Support Product Engineering during project execution through application of standard designs, technical coordination, and feedback from project and field experience.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA), internal engineering practices, and safety requirements.
  • Follow all internal work processes related to safety, engineering, project management, and operations.
