Sports Betting Writer

USA TODAY Co. is seeking a dynamic and innovative reporter to provide compelling sports betting and gambling content across our platforms.

The ideal candidate will consistently deliver superior gambling content at the speed of news, engaging with a hungry audience that demands real-time information, unique insights and expert analysis. They will collaborate with other innovative journalists to meet consumers where they are, while adhering to USA TODAY Co.'s strong ethical standards.

Expertise in all things sports betting, gambling and fantasy gaming is paramount to thriving in this role. The best candidate will bring a fresh approach to covering these topics, complete with an ability to write with authority and move the needle.

The individual will merge a content-first approach with a collaborative process to work closely with USA TODAY Co.'s strategic partners to maximize existing business impact and chart a path forward to maximize impact across the the USA TODAY Network, which includes more than 250 sites.

At least five years of experience reporting on sports gambling is preferred to succeed in this role, and experience with video, social tools, podcasting and/or AI is a plus. The ability to build an innovative content strategy from scratch, as well as both understand and champion advanced SEO concepts, is a must.

This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska, Hawaii and Wyoming.

Responsibilities:

• Create compelling and innovative gambling content for a hungry audience.
• Work closely with strategic partners to create an effective content strategy from scratch.
• Collaborate with USA TODAY Network sports journalists to maximize impact.
• Create content across multiple mediums, including network sites and social media as well as video and audio platforms.
• Shape coverage based on performance metrics, business impact and audience needs.

Requirements :

• Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five years of delivering high-impact digital media on multiple platforms.
• Experience covering sports betting, gambling and/or fantasy content while adhering to strong ethical guidelines.
• Ability to think creatively while providing superior content with precision, clarity and tact.
• High-level understanding of creating audience connections through content and various engagement tactics.
• High-level understanding and mastery of SEO principles, insights and strategies.
• Command of media law and Principles of Ethical Conduct.

The hourly rate for this role will range between $24.28 and $37.94. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
