DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position performs skilled maintenance and repair work on vehicles and motorized equipment to ensure they remain safe and functional. Your dedicated efforts will support daily operations by keeping essential equipment in proper working condition. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:


  • Vehicle Maintenance: Inspect and repair cars, trucks, buses, vans, and other equipment using specialized tools
  • System Repairs: Diagnose and service hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems along with transmissions
  • Preventive Work: Carry out scheduled maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and mechanical parts
  • State Inspections: Complete official safety and emissions inspections and prepare required documentation
  • Equipment Diagnostics: Identify mechanical issues using diagnostic equipment to choose correct repair methods
  • Operational Support: Perform road service, operate equipment when needed, and maintain safe working conditions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • During orientation, work hours will be 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work hours may change based upon operational needs.
  • Travel and overtime as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
  • This position requires the employee to be a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic for the class of vehicle used in the agency.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
