DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support safe and successful highway construction by inspecting project work and materials for accuracy and quality. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Inspection: Inspect phases of construction work and review material placement for accuracy
  • Field Measurements: Assist with checking grades, elevations, and stake-out activities
  • Testing and Review: Conduct compaction testing and review project documentation for completeness
  • Communication: Work with staff, agencies, and the public to support effective project administration
  • Problem Solving: Identify field issues and support efforts to resolve construction challenges

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • This position will cover projects in Luzerne County.
  • Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time, on an ad-hoc basis. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Dunmore. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
