Oil and Gas Inspector

As an Oil and Gas Inspector for the Department of Environmental Protection, you will take part in important efforts to guard public health and protect Pennsylvania lands. In this position, you will focus on ensuring that oil and gas wells and related facilities follow state laws that protect the environment and public safety. Your work will include inspections, record reviews, and investigations that help safeguard communities and natural resources. As a Oil and Gas Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

• Conduct Field Inspections: Inspect wells and related facilities during drilling, production, alteration, and plugging phases to evaluate compliance with laws and regulations
• Investigate Complaints: Respond to citizen concerns, perform site checks, and document findings in reports and written records
• Issue Enforcement Notices: Notify operators of violations, support enforcement actions, and assist in preparing materials for hearings and legal proceedings
• Review Technical Records: Examine well logs, reports, alternative methods, certificates, and related documents to determine accuracy and compliance
• Operate Scientific Equipment: Use gas meters and related tools to collect samples and interpret results during investigations
• Document Evidence: Gather photographs, videos, and case materials that support compliance decisions and legal actions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in New Stanton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry; or
• An associate's degree in Petroleum Technology or closely related field, and one year of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.

• This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
