Who we are and what we do:

The Division of Land Protection (DLP), Remediation Branch identifies and investigates hazardous substance sites, then uses practical and effective remedies to correct issues found, which minimizes threats to public health, safety, and ethe environment. DLP oversees work at National Priority List (NPL) Superfund sites, state inactive hazardous substance sites, brownfields, dry cleaners, and properties where methamphetamine was illegally manufactured. DLP operates the Voluntary Cleanup, Oversight and Assistance Program (VOAP) and supports the redevelopment and revitalization of brownfields to protect the environment, reuse existing infrastructure, minimize urban sprawl and create economic opportunities.

Lead and oversee complex financial and accounting operations that support environmental remediation programs and grant-funded initiative.

Job Overview:

This position operates under general supervision, managing professional accounting activities, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with state and federal financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and subject-matter expertise on accounting policies, procedures, and financial systems.
  • Perform complex reconciliations of general ledger accounts and financial transactions.
  • Prepare and review detailed financial activity and budget reports.
  • Monitor revenue collections, expenditures, and grant funding to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Analyze financial impacts of legislation, policies, and program changes.
  • Supervise accounting staff and assign work priorities. Evaluate employee performance, workload needs, and professional development.
  • Provide training and guidance on fiscal procedures and policies.
  • Develop strategies to achieve departmental financial goals.
  • Manage long-term financial projects and ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Collaborate with internal divisions and external partners to support program success.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have graduated from an accredited college/university with a bachelor's degree in accounting and experience equivalent to five or more years of full-time professional accounting or auditing work. Qualifying education or designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with three years' experience may be substituted for education/experience on a year-for-year basis.
