The Licensing and Acquisitions Librarian plays a vital role at the Auraria Library by serving as the library's expert on license agreements between vendors, publishers, and other related service providers. This position is responsible for overseeing the review, negotiation, and collection management of the library's resources subscribed or purchased in collaboration with the University of Colorado Libraries. The Licensing and Acquisitions Librarian is responsible for staying closely attuned to developments and challenges in library collection strategies and licensing and consistently advocating for the best possible terms and pricing. Licensing and Acquisitions Librarian What you will do:
Licensing & Acquisitions
- Leads and manages library electronic resources license negotiation and management for the Auraria Library.
- Reviews and negotiates all library electronic resource licenses with publishers/ vendors to reach favorable licensing terms, including key issues like accessibility, fair use, text and data mining, interlibrary loan, artificial intelligence, privacy, and more.
- Working in conjunction with the Head of Collection Development and Strategies, leads efforts to initiate, assess, and negotiate transformative agreements.
- Oversees the lifecycle of Auraria Library's acquisitions of resources that are purchased collaboratively with the University of Colorado (CU) System Libraries.
- Meets and works closely with vendors and publishers to create and maintain effective, productive relationships and manage library accounts.
- Cultivates relationships with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating often with colleagues on projects, cancellations, renewals, and new purchases.
- Maintains current knowledge of acquisitions standards and practices, including publisher practices.
- Organizes and maintains license records.
- Advises library colleagues on license agreement interpretation and permissions (i.e. text and data mining (TDM) and AI).
- Actively negotiates with vendors and publishers for cost savings.
- Incorporates accessibility into the negotiation and renewal process, including activities such as reviewing Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs), updating license accessibility language, and organizing accessibility audits.
- Supports direct subscriptions and purchases as needed.
- Reviews all CU multi-campus license agreements and coordinates with other CU campuses as appropriate.
- Actively serves on the CU System Electronic Resources Team and contributes to the team's goal of leveraging the purchasing power of the CU-System libraries to achieve the most favorable pricing and terms for our patrons.
- Serves as the library expert on current and emerging licensing trends and best practices. Develops and maintains guidelines and best practices for licensing terms.
- Serves as the primary liaison to the University Procurement Services Center (PSC) for Auraria Library's EResources licensing and with University Risk and Compliance (RAC) for IT security review on library EResources.
Other
- Organizes and effectively presents data and statistics for use in decision-making.
- Serves on the EResources Support Committee. Tasks include troubleshooting user access issues, database downtime, and EZproxy issues.
- Participates on Library and campus-wide committees and CU Denver faculty governance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications) Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Master's degree in library and/or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited or equivalent accrediting body program at time of application.
- Two (2) years of experience reviewing and negotiating license agreements/contracts in an academic library.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience reviewing and negotiating license agreements/contracts in an academic library.
- Experience negotiating favorable terms (i.e. accessibility, data privacy) into library licenses that meet the needs of diverse populations.
- Experience troubleshooting EResources access problems for internal and external users and using library software like EZproxy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices and preferred license terms for academic libraries, copyright, fair use, and open access.
- Experience preparing for and executing successful negotiations that include cost savings and favorable licensing terms.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to support students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a collaborative environment.
- Commitment to professional development.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize projects based on library, campus, and user needs.
- Experience with library management systems (i.e. Sierra, Alma) and managing electronic resources.
Conditions of Employment
- This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, based on departmental needs. Hours are generally 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.

Compensation and Benefits The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $$61,350 - $67,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.This position is/is not eligible for overtime compensation.
