THE POSITION

The General Real Estate Appraiser position with the Department of Transportation offers a rewarding way to support important highway projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position appraises residential land and properties to support right-of-way needs for highway improvement projects. The work ensures fair market value, timely completion, and accurate documentation for major transportation efforts. As a General Real Estate Appraiser, you will perform the following duties:

  • Property Appraisals: Evaluate residential land and structures to determine fair market value for right-of-way acquisition
  • Technical Guidance: Assist staff with complex appraisal issues and provide direction on appraisal standards
  • Report Analysis: Review appraisal reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with required practices
  • Contract Preparation: Prepare documentation for fee appraiser contracts and review submitted appraisal work
  • Right Of Way Sales: Manage excess right-of-way sales including advertising, agreements, and bid openings
  • Project Support: Assist legal and engineering staff with plans, reviews, and preparation for hearings and trials

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Certified General Real Estate Appraiser certification.
  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
