Construction Inspector, Texarkana, TX Halff has an immediate opening for a Construction Inspector in Texarkana, TX. In this role, you will support construction services by monitoring and inspecting construction methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications. Responsibilities include providing training and guidance to other inspection personnel, maintaining strong working relationships with internal teams, external clients, and contractor staff, assisting with the development of construction services policies and procedures, and resolving complex issues on advanced projects. What you will do:
- Conduct on-site inspections to ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, contract documents, applicable standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and interpret construction plans, schematics, blueprints, maps, and specifications to verify accuracy and resolve discrepancies or differences in interpretation.
- Monitor construction materials, workmanship, methods, and quality control activities to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Perform field measurements, calculations, and evaluations related to materials, labor, quantities, expenses, survey data, and engineering requirements.
- Lead and actively participate in inspection of construction work and materials across a variety of projects.
- Document daily construction activities, inspections, testing results, and field observations; prepare accurate reports, including sketches, measurements, calculations, and photographs to support pay items.
- Identify, document, and communicate construction issues, non-compliance items, and deficiencies in a timely manner, and assist in their resolution.
- Apply construction engineering policies, procedures, inspection techniques, testing methods, and evaluation standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with materials testing personnel to ensure timely, compliant testing and documentation.
- Perform SWPPP and TPDES inspections and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Monitor project phasing, traffic control plans, and traffic management activities in accordance with safety regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD).
- Monitor and enforce applicable safety laws, rules, guidelines, and specifications to maintain a safe construction environment.
- Support the preparation of documentation and reports required by regulatory and oversight agencies.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, consultants, project staff, regulatory agencies, and the public to maintain positive working relationships.
- Lead, assign, review, and monitor the work of assigned staff or inspectors, as applicable.
- Utilize computers, software applications, and inspection systems to efficiently complete job duties.
What you will need:
- Minimum of 5 years of construction inspection experience on TxDOT or other DOT projects
- Valid Texas Driver's License with reliable transportation
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and techniques
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal construction codes and regulations
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and standards
- Basic understanding of civil engineering principles
- Knowledge of construction safety practices and protocols
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent observational and analytical skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Comfortable using software and digital tools for reporting and documentation
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
- Self-directed professional with a strong commitment to quality, integrity, and project success
- Construction Inspection certification (e.g., ACI, NICET) strongly preferred
- Ability and willingness to travel to multiple project sites, including extended assignments
- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to access and navigate active construction sites
- Capable of prolonged periods of walking, standing, climbing, and lifting
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
