Job Summary

Management of a geographical region of the Company's gas operations business; provides direct oversight for all operational and budgetary needs with objective of providing safe, reliable service to customers at reasonable operating costs; manages relationships with regulatory and elected officials that could affect the Company's ability to operate efficiently.

Essential Functions

  • Manages and directs Company activities including coordination of activities with support staff of other organizations as needed.
  • Manages service, construction and maintenance work performed by Company and contractor personnel.
  • Directs and assigns security, maintenance and housekeeping of service center building, grounds, and all related equipment.
  • Monitors and maintains the leases applicable to current service center building and grounds.
  • Develops, monitors and adjusts the operating budget and productivity targets in a consistent and efficient manner.
  • Develops the operating and financial strategy consistent with Company direction and vision, implements the strategy and reports the progress.
  • Frequent contacts with executives both within and outside the Company on matters requiring explanations and discussion which may influence important decisions.
  • Assists employees and counsels customers, contractors, and regulatory bodies regarding unusual or difficult problems arising out of the work performed by employees.
  • Interprets and administers policies as they apply to employees, customers and the general public.

Essential Functions Continued

  • Periodically makes field inspections to check quality of work performance of employees.
  • Effectively influences and achieves operating culture change across all varying work groups.
  • Promotes corporate citizenship, and trains and counsels employees to assure they are building and maintaining a good Company image with customers and their respective community, civic and governmental officials.
  • Responsible for regulatory compliance of operations and quality of service regulations.
  • Regular and frequent contacts with city, county and state officials, requiring a sense of timing, tact and judgment in dealing with them.
  • Works with the community officials to provide information concerning the operations of the company and is responsible for providing information affecting local rates and negotiating agreements.
  • Promotes employee and public safety through participation in safety meetings, inspection of equipment and work areas, participation in accident investigations and initiation of corrective action for hazardous situations.
  • Exercises independent judgment in emergency situations as required in the absence of established policies and procedures.

Education Description

Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in business administration, marketing, engineering or related field or at least eight (8) years of relevant experience with gas and/or electric operations, accounting, or engineering if non-degreed.

Experience

Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the utility industry, including a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a supervisor or manager.

Physical Requirements



    • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
    • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
    • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
    • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.



Working Conditions



    • Able to travel occasionally overnight.
    • Able to work in an office environment.
    • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
    • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's All-Hazard Operation Plan (AHOP).
    • Able to work regular hours, with occasional or mandatory overtime, may be required to work rotating shifts.
