As a Microbiology Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. We are seeking a seasoned Microbiologist with 3-5+ years of culture setup, morphology interpretation, identification of bacteria and fungi, etc. Please read on for job requirements. IDEXX BioAnalytics, Inc., a division of IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. is a leader in diagnostic testing for both the biomedical and life science market. The laboratory is based in Columbia, Missouri and employs approximately 70 people. What you'll be doing as a Microbiology Laboratory Technician: You will be using laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests aimed to help specialists to diagnose animal illnesses. You will be part of a crew where teamwork is important. You will be responsible for setting up and reading microbiology cultures and reading the results per the laboratory's SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). You can expect to specialize in the following areas:
- Microbiology Culture Setup
- Interpretation of bacterial and fungal colony morphologies
- Identification of bacteria and fungi using MALDI-TOF MS and/or biochemical testing
- Performing antibiotic sensitivity testing
- Making microbiology culture media
- Cell Line Sterility Setup
- Data analysis and troubleshooting
- Case approval
- Update and write SOPs
- Performing other duties as assigned
What you'll need to succeed:
- 3-5+ years' experience with the Microbiology skills listed above
- 4-year degree in Science-related field preferred, or current coursework.
- Analytical thinking while operating laboratory instruments and during data interpretation
- Good organizational skills with ability to multi-task
- Ability to pay close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Communication skills, both verbal and written
- Positive, can-do attitude
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as appropriate
- Motivation to acquire new laboratory skills to meet business needs

Schedule:
- This is a full time (40 hr/wk) day shift position with hours Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00pm (but could be flexible).
- The shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
