Job Description: The Senior Network Engineer provides advanced technical expertise in the design, implementation, and support of the bank's network infrastructure. This role is responsible for resolving complex network issues, ensuring secure and reliable network operations, and supporting the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network systems and services. The position serves as a key technical resource within the IT team, offering guidance and mentorship to network administrators and other support staff while promoting consistent standards and best practices. The role works closely with peers and leadership to support ongoing network improvements and ensure alignment with organizational technology goals. SCHEDULE: 8-5 M-F, typically 3 days per week in-office at Fargo Corporate office. Off hours work on an as-needed basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Advanced understanding of technical problems associated with network software and hardware systems and devices, ranging from computer NIC cards to switches and routers.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to network administrators and other IT staff, establishing best practices, standards, and consistent operational procedures across the network environment.
- Support the design, review, and continuous improvement of the organization's network architecture to ensure scalability, resiliency, and security.
- Partner with IT leadership to evaluate emerging technologies and recommend network improvements aligned with organizational goals.
- Perform complex problem analysis and recommend practical solutions to the end-user or manager as appropriate.
- Work with peers to maintain and monitor network systems, firewalls, switches, web, and email security appliances.
- Provide advanced technical expertise and support in the proper installation and secure configuration of network devices and firewall rules.
- Assist in the deployment, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of network hardware, software, and other bank hardware and software programs, particularly focused on network setup and connectivity.
- Communicate and coordinate system downtime to users.
- Ensure configuration back-ups of network and security systems, such as switches or firewalls, and perform disaster recovery tests where applicable to systems.
- Plan and execute the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; adhere to network policies and procedures; establish connections and configure/maintain firewalls.
- Maintain the WAN infrastructure by provisioning branch and vendor circuits as needed.
- Maintain network security through proper configuration of VPN and firewalls.
- Maintain and enhance network security, access controls, monitoring, and documentation.
- Upgrade the network by conferring with vendors and developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
- Respond to end-user support requests in a timely, efficient, and courteous manner.
- Protect the organization's value and reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Interface with external auditors during security and controls assessments.

Provide an excellent customer service experience for team members and customers. Develop and maintain productive relationships with team members, leaders, customers, and vendors. Prompt and reliable attendance is essential to provide expected levels of service. Must comply with all Gate City Bank policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. Must be detail-oriented and maintain a high degree of accuracy. Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A.); 7 or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Well-versed in configuring, installing, and troubleshooting centralized network infrastructures such as routers, switches, firewalls, phone systems, etc. Cisco certifications, such as CCNA, are preferred, but not required. Experience with, but not limited to, the following is preferred: Network switching, vlans, Cisco Meraki appliances, Cisco switches, Cisco Wireless, Cisco Routers and Firewalls, Cisco Phone Systems, Cloud Computing, Internet Security appliances, email security appliances, Active Directory, Microsoft Server 2019 and beyond, and Microsoft SQL.
