Job Summary
Assist the Financial Services team within the Accounting Department in the performance of cash compliance activities, the administration and accounting for the company credit card program, and the analytical work as it pertains to the individual teams within Financial Services while providing support to management, internal customers, auditors, and regulators.
Essential Functions
- Apply principles of accounting to analyze cash and cash equivalents accounts, ensuring adequacy of internal controls (SO 404). Perform all necessary analysis to ensure an efficient and effective cash reconciliation process.
- Create and apply analytical procedures to ensure accuracy of cash related financial transactions/data.
- Prepare bank reconciliations for the various CenterPoint Energy companies.
- Maintain bank accounts, review bank statements, and reconcile & research all discrepancies.
- Reviews and analyzes bank fees.
- Assist with monthly close of books and records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Record journal entries and perform required reconciliations as part of the close process.
- Stay abreast of the various state regulations pertaining to escheatment activities.
- Maintain and undertake all activities associated with escheatment due diligence and compliance.
- Prepare escheatment filings according to the varying state requirements.
- File state reports and remits unclaimed property in accordance with state rules and best practices.
- Prepare general ledger reconciliations and analysis for all general ledger accounts within Financial Services.
- Administer the company credit card program while applying principles of accounting to transactions stemming from credit card use.
- Oversee anti-fraud programs related to credit card use.
- Create and apply analytical procedures to analyze company spend patterns to identify new opportunities for card use and/or inappropriate card use.
- Become an ambassador of the card program to expand its use within all aspects of the company.
- Apply the necessary tools to identify unauthorized card use and noncompliance to the card program.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures pertaining to the card program.
- Assist in designing, maintaining, and testing internal controls within Financial Services department (SO 404).
- Prepare supporting documents for audits and coordinate the audit process.
- Support on-going efforts towards aligning policies, guidelines, and processes to continue to manage risk and improve operational efficiencies and continuous improvement opportunities across the operating companies.
Education Description
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management.
Experience
- 3 - 5 years of relevant work experience required.
Physical Requirements
- Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
- Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
- Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Working Conditions
- Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
- Able to work regular hours, with occasional or mandatory overtime; may be required to work rotating shifts.
