Nalco Water's Industrial RD&E group has an opening for a Senior Chemical Engineer in our Global Pilot Plant Facility in Chicago, Il.

This role focuses on helping move specialty chemical processes from the R&D bench to pilot and commercial manufacturing through development, scale-up, and technology transfer. You will partner closely with Application Research, Marketing, and Supply Chain to support Ecolab's global new product pipeline launches.

You will help evaluate and improve processes to strengthen product performance and address manufacturing needs. The work includes contributing to new or improved products, processes, or systems and supporting intellectual property activities when applicable.

Depending on the project, you may serve as a technical contributor or workstream lead for product launch activities, partnering with cross-functional teams and sharing progress with stakeholders in R&D, Supply Chain, and Marketing. You may also support feasibility estimates, design implications, and financial inputs used for project justification.

What You Will Do:

  • Support the design, troubleshooting, and improvement of chemical manufacturing processes

  • Establish process specifications and controls to meet customer and quality requirements

  • Use designed experiments and basic statistical analysis to understand and improve process capability

  • Contribute to research that develops and improves chemical manufacturing processes

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to understand requirements for new products or processes

  • Conduct Initial economic and technical feasibility studies of new products and processing technologies

  • Develop detailed process design, manufacturing troubleshooting, and process control

  • Partner with manufacturing sites to identify improvement opportunities and support efficiency and cost initiatives

  • Support small-volume manufacturing and niche product needs as priorities require

  • Contribute to pilot plant improvement projects, including scope input and execution support

  • Provide technical input to corporate initiatives (e.g., EH&S, technology transfer, and process standardization)

  • Participate on Product Action Teams to improve product quality and capability

  • Help evaluate and implement new process equipment or analytical tools, including supporting capital requests and integration

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related with 2 years of Research experience.

  • High mechanical aptitude and attention to detail

  • Strong technical writing and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently

  • Ability to travel to various equipment vendors or Ecolab manufacturing locations, potentially up to 20%

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The pay range for this position is $85,900.00 - $128,900.00. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
