Job Summary:
The Safety Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the
program's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS/ESH) program in support of
Contract Field Team
operations at NAS Norfolk (VAW-120). The position ensures compliance with all applicable
Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Navy, OSHA, and company safety requirements, and serves as the
primary advisor to site leadership on safety risk, compliance, and incident prevention.
The Safety Manager works across all functional areas to identify hazards, enforce safety standards,
and promote a culture of safety accountability to support mission readiness and operational
effectiveness.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Program Safety Oversight
* Develops, implements, and manages the site Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) program
* Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, DoD, U.S. Navy, and company safety regulations
and policies
* Serves as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters
Compliance and Risk Management
* Conducts routine safety inspections, audits, and assessments across hangar, flight line, and support
areas
* Identifies hazards and ensures corrective actions are implemented and tracked to closure
Maintains compliance with OSHA standards and Navy/DoD safety instructions
* Develops and enforces safety procedures, policies, and work instructions
Incident Prevention and Investigation
* Leads investigations for accidents, incidents, and near-misses
* Performs root cause analysis and implements corrective/preventive actions
Tracks and trends safety data to identify systemic risks
* Prepares and submits required safety reports in accordance with contractual and regulatory
requirements
Training and Safety Culture
* Develops and delivers safety training programs for all personnel
* Ensures employees receive required initial and recurring safety training
* Promotes a proactive safety culture and employee engagement in hazard reporting
* Advises leadership on safety performance and improvement initiatives

Program Integration
* Works closely with Site Manager, Deputy Program Manager, Quality Manager, and Training Manager to
integrate safety into all operations
* Participates in planning meetings to ensure safety considerations are incorporated into mission
execution
* Supports emergency response planning and drills
Additional Responsibilities
* Maintains required safety documentation and records
* Supports internal and external safety audits and inspections
* Represents the company in a professional and compliant manner
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education
* High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field
preferred
Experience
* Minimum 5-7 years of experience in safety management within aviation, maintenance, or DoD
environment
* Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and DoD/Navy safety requirements
* Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations
* Familiarity with aircraft maintenance operations and associated hazards
Certifications (Preferred / Desired)
* OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry or Construction)
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
* Navy Safety Program experience or equivalent DoD safety training
Skills and Competencies
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to enforce compliance and influence behavior across all levels
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* High attention to detail and organizational skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Additional Requirements
o Must be able to obtain and maintain:
o Security Clearance
o DoD CAC privileges
o Special Access Badge (as required) Valid U.S. Driver's License
o Ability to meet all Government and company qualification requirements
Working Conditions:
Work environment includes office, hangar, and flight line settings
Exposure to:
o Aircraft operations, noise, and moving equipment
