DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position maintains and repairs diesel and construction equipment to support safe and effective transportation operations. The work includes inspecting equipment, performing repairs, and ensuring all vehicles meet required standards. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Repairs: Fix engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and other major components
- Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, tune-ups, and inspections
- State Inspections: Perform official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
- Tool And Equipment Care: Repair and maintain hand tools, power equipment, and shop machinery
- Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and keep the work area clean and safe
- Operational Support: Assist other mechanics, document work, and make adjustments to support safe equipment use

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Shifts may vary seasonally/due to weather and/or based on operational needs
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,492 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission (E) removed or equivalent.
- This position requires possession of an valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
